If you look at the SBNation blog MJL linked to you will see the last 5 Cup winners(Chicagox2) mentioned as using analytics in some way shape or form, along with the runner ups in 2013 & 2011.

I watch a ton of Blackhawks games, and of course they use it. They value puck possession, hockey sense and puck skills more than just about anybody I've seen.
With the ages of the players they have, God save this league if they somehow manage to find the right No. 2 center for how they play. That hole they have there, along with the age of Michal Roszival, is the only reason they aren't terrorizing this league more than they are. - AllInForFlyers
They possibly have that if & when Teuvo Teravainen makes his way over. |

What worries me is, the Flyers are drafting Zac 2.0 in round three.
Of course, they did have Mirco Meulller high on their draft list, and he's an analytical minded team's dream pick. |

Actually, they're not. Corsi was created by a NHL assistant coach, named Jim Corsi. These stats, might go by different names, but there's a lot more than just Corsi & CorsiRel to it.
But the same sort of stats you find on behindthenet.ca or ExtraSkater.com are the same things that analytic minded teams are looking at. In fact the author of the piece you linked to has done statistical consulting for the Predators and I'll take his opinions and stats reporting over yours.
There's no magic set of stats that teams like LA or Chicago use. They might calculate them differently or have different names for them, but it's largely the same stats you find at places like those I have mentioned. - Jsaquella
Well aware of where Corsi came from and when it was invented. The article I linked also linked numerous articles about teams using analytics. And while some of it did say that some teams, are using Corsi and it's subsets. More teams are using internal analytics, and there is no factual information that describes what the analytics are specifically. The links in the article I posted stated that teams are reluctant to talk specifically about the analytics that they use. If they were using the same stats that are posted on the advanced stats sites, that wouldn't be the case. It's already public knowledge. So there isn't much basis for stating that the stats that most teams use in their analytics as the same stats found on some of the advanced stats web sites. One article states that Toronto uses an analytic that is similar to Corsi, but it does not match up with the Corsi found on those websites that you have mentioned. |

It bothers me probably more than most that they took Tyrell Goulbourne over Ryan Kujawinski, Anthony Duclair, Carter Verhaeghe, Jimmy Lodge, Cole Cassels, or Oliver Bjorkstrand. |

It never has been. Teams have used statistical evaluations to aid in evaluating players and games forever.

When you watch them play...it would be truly frightening if they had someone to help Kane a little more.
If they feel like they are missing just that one piece, I could see Bickell and Tervainen going for someone around 26, 27 years old...and if they get that, they will be one of the toughest outs this league has seen in quite some time |

They seem to be doing better in the later round recently though. There was a stretch where they got very little after round 1. At least now they have guys like Stolarz, Ghost, Hagg, Vasiliev, Lauridson who all have NHL potential. |

The thing is, people who dismiss stats limit it to Corsi and it's subsets. There's a lot more out there than just Corsi. A lot of it is built off the early advanced stats, like Corsi, but it's evolved. Teams who do analytics are not going to just stop at Corsi. They look at zone starts, zone entry, deployment, usage, and a million other items.
Again, the author of the blog you linked to has worked in the NHL, and I read his stuff regularly and he often informs his readers of new things teams are looking at. Also, a lot of those sites share information with one another. In fact, Eric just did a write up for extra skater.
As for Toronto, they say the use an internal system, but the GM admitted they haven't spent money on analytics for years
beat/mirtle-nonis-not-yet-a-believer-in-hockeys-statistical-push/article15384253
“We’re constantly trying to find solid uses for it,” Nonis said on Monday as he took part in a sports analytics panel at the PrimeTime Sports Management Conference. “The last six, seven years, we’ve had a significant dollar amount in our budget for analytics and most of those years we didn’t use it.
That tells me that the Leafs have, at best, a confused system of analytic review. |

I think they have a place, but there are so many intangible variables in a team game. It's easier to use in baseball because the sport is so individualistic. One batter vs one pitcher. It's much easier to break down.
Hockey players rely so heavily on things like chemistry. Look at a line like Hartnell-Briere-Leino. They played great together, but, with the exception of Hartnell, played poorly when broken up.
Defense pairings are the same way. Do certain players trust their defense partner? |

Agreed, lots of variables. And the key as always is the interpretation of what the stat is telling you, and why a particular result is happening.
