This is why I don't understand the Mark Fayne love fest.

He does everything ok and nothing great.

Perfect body position to chip the puck up and MacKinnon out works him and strips him for a breakaway.

That does not happen to good defensemen. Certainly not in that area of the ice. I don't think he is as strong or as careful with the puck as whatever numbers may lead some to believe.

Another good example at the end of the period.

Had a step wide on the forward and all he was able to do was shovel it to the net. A defenseman with any offensive skill is going to be able to rip that. It may sound over critical since it happened to hit the post, but, in reality, there was a better opportunity to be had.

Gotta start hitting the net on Giguere. He looks a little shaky. The Carter goal was real bad.

I like Peter Harrold. I like what he brings and remember: he was one of the #NJDevils top six on their way to the 2012 Final.

I had no idea people like this existed.

When someone's argument is essentially "he played on the team that one time" you should probably taken with a grain of salt.

Hopefully Larsson will be up soon. Not much solidarity back there at the moment.

Mark Fayne is a statistically good player. Dumb people don't believe in statistics. You don't believe in statistics.

He's a borderline top 4 defensman who gives us good value for his cap hit. Don't really see the problem with him...

You're talking about mackinnon, an 18 year old who is in the tier just below the Crosby OV Stamkos Tavares level. The kid is great and he's only a rookie. Not surprised he stripped fayne. He can probably do that to all but the star dmen in the league.

In the next 27 games he'd have score 17 goals to get to 30. Right now he'd be 4th on the devils in goals and 10th in total points. Why do you want him? He's a rental and is 4 months away from turning 32.

obviously because he was injured. He's still on pace for an average of 30g per games played or whatever. I'm not firm on wanting him. I just don't know what else we do besides continue to suck.

Someone check the Vegas odds for Devils giving up a goal in the last minute of regulation.

That's not true.

Fayne had postion. Postion equals leverage. Leverage equals strength on the puck. He should be able to make the easy play. Just because it's against a good player doesn't mean your not accountable. It's an easy play.

Other examples, he got smoked on a would be icing with 5 mins left in the 2nd.

He got a good chance from a bounce off the back boards and drilled Giguere in the Avalanche logo.

He's not terrible, I just don't understand the frustration if he doesnt play.

Someone said he's borderline top 4. My argument would be borderline top 6 on a good team.

For what it's worth Merrill has had an excellent game. Quick, good decisions. Easy, safe plays. Might be pretty good in a year or two when he develops a little initiative in the offensive zone.

He has 13 in 38 games which equates to .34 goals per game. If he played 82 games he scored about 27 or 28 goals if you round up. He's a proven playoff point scorer, can't deny him that. But since 2010-11 he's scored 65 goals in 215 games. Equates to only 24 goals averaged out over a course of 82 games.. As he gets older it's less and less likely he can keep up that pace.

Random thought, but since NJ used to be the Colorado Rockies, that means Don Cherry coached the Devils at one point. So... We've got that going for us.
