The Pronger trade would have been fine if he didnt suffer the career ending concussion - PhillySportsGuy
if he didn't have the concussion something else would have broke

I think the situations are different. The Flyers were clearly in win now mode when they traded for him. They were already an established playoff team. This team has younger talent and is further from a Cup.
There was reason to believe Pronger was the missing piece to put that team over the top. |

Yup. They definitely seem to flatten out at home after a good road trip against tough opponents. Isn't their PP% quite a bit lower at home than on the road?
Maybe it's because, as G said last night, they are traveling and staying together as a team and that makes them closer and better? Whatever it is, they need to bring it home with them. - wolfhounds
I think that might be it. Bonding type of thing. I can't understand why the pp is so much worse at home though. Another thing I forgot is that we won last night without timonen. Excellent win vs one of the best teams on the league. Guess we don't suck at least til next game anyways. |

if the TDL was tomorrow do you think the Flyers should look to be buyers, sellers or stand pat? - Crimsoninja
Option 4D. Make unilateral moves to make the team better without buying or selling. |

But on this team, who do you sit/demote to give him a shot? - jmatchett383
I think there will be some "natural" turnover at some point...guys not re-signed, guys traded, guys injured...he should be one of the first call ups when a skilled player is needed...and/or given a shot in the next camp to make the team etc. The usual ways... |

you and I know this, but the guys pulling the trigger on the trade deals may or may not
or if they do realize this, they may still be willing to sacrifice the future (picks/prospects/young talent) for a "lets get into the playoffs and see what happens from there" mind set |

ty for responses. all well said.
does this team remind anyone else of the team right before they made the Pronger trade? - Crimsoninja
I would say the mix of youth was a lot different and more deep up front.
Richards, Carter, Lupul, Upshall.... JVR & Giroux as prospects..

Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Couturier |

No. A deal that is equal on both sides. Like say one of our Young centers for either a young winger or a young defenseman. Its not a sell, and its not a buy. Its a lateral move. |

I don't really think this team needs a big time winger all that much. They don't have trouble scoring anymore. If you take out the first 15 games where no one played well, they are in the top 10 in scoring. |

Do you guys really think Ekblad is going first overall? I mean seeing how far Seth jones dropped, I can definately see calgarys pick being about to get him. I mean at midterm rankings he is listed as 3rd. |

Not that it wouldn't help, but I agree. They just need the young players to continue to progress. And to upgrade the mix of the defense. |

Too for what its worth, Flyers under the cap would not have been able to afford all of those guys so change was inevitable. For s and g's checked capgeek and they would be like 2 mil over and thats without Lupul and Upshall. |

I think it depends who picks. I don't see him dropping past 2 though. I could see Buffalo taking Reinhart. |

I dont think the scoring is as good as you think it is. I mean considering we get a lot of back-up goalies... and we have been staying very healthy compaired to most teams.... We just dont have that dynamic scorer. I want a Dynamic Scorer God Darn It. |

He should. It would be a mistake to pass over him, regardless of who's picking 1st. |

Do the Flyers face more backup Goalies then any other team does? The Flyers have two dynamic offensive players on the team. And the young players will increase in scoring. As well as a number of players that are capable of scoring in the 20-30 goal range. |

Well Calgary is second to last. So as long as they finish below edmonton or they win the lottery, I could definately see that pick being Ekblad. |

We have 7-8 guys who can score 20 goals. We dont "need" a dynamic scorer. Giroux, by definition, is a "dynamic scorer"
We put 4 past Niemi last night and chased him from the net. I'm not worried about this team scoring goals. I'm worried about them preventing them. |
