I dont think the scoring is as good as you think it is. I mean considering we get a lot of back-up goalies... and we have been staying very healthy compaired to most teams.... We just dont have that dynamic scorer. I want a Dynamic Scorer God Darn It. - youarewrong
I know. It would be great to pair Giroux with a pure sniper, but it is not a good allocation of resources and money. It is much more important that the team get more diverse on defense.
It will be difficult to score goals if our defense can't move the puck up ice consistently. Even if you have your orgamsic Vanek-Giroux-Yak line, it won't matter if they're hemmed in their own zone all the time.

Well Calgary is second to last. So as long as they finish below edmonton or they win the lottery, I could definately see that pick being Ekblad. - youarewrong
They will probably go BPA. They have a lot of needs.

Do the Flyers face more backup Goalies then any other team does? The Flyers have two dynamic offensive players on the team. And the young players will increase in scoring. As well as a number of players that are capable of scoring in the 20-30 goal range. - MJL
I think this is a good question.
It seems to me the Flyers do play against more back up goal tenders.
We have 7-8 guys who can score 20 goals. We dont "need" a dynamic scorer. Giroux, by definition, is a "dynamic scorer"
We put 4 past Niemi last night and chased him from the net. I'm not worried about this team scoring goals. I'm worried about them preventing them. - mochoson
Giroux is... not sure anyone else on this team is... I'm just not crazy about framework of the team... Its like we have Giroux... and Voracek who are more playmakers, you have simmonds and Hartnell who is Power Forward, You have Read + Couts who are 2 way forwards... And Schenn is hard to put in any category... But you dont have anyone with an incredible shot.
Can you win with teams like that.. sure, but you need a defense and goalie like Boston and LA have... Its like the Flyers are stuck in the middle with the guys they have... They cant stop the high scoring teams..., they cant score well on defensive teams..
I think we need to work on Defense first... yes.. But also forward speed and pure goal scorer. And dont draft another freaking Center for 3 years.
We get a lot of back-up goalies compared to who? - Feanor
Yea... Compared to say Chicago... A team has to play Chicago then Philly then San jose... Philly is going to get the back-up.. We do the same things do we not? Mason gets the tougher starts for the most part, throw in Emery on the "weaker" teams...

That was an extremely deep draft. - PhillySportsGuy
It was a very deep draft, but Jones is still up there... the only reason he dropped that far was because for fear drafting D-man that high... He should have been 1st or 2nd.

It was a really deep draft though. McKinnon, Barkov, Jones, Monahan already look like future stars. Drouin is averaging over 2 points per game in juniors. There are 5 players in that draft that would have been #1 in this draft
Simmonds' overall numbers - 18 goals, 22 assists for 40 points in 56 games - are not eye-popping. He does not have the most points on the team. But since Dec. 17, only Kyle Okposo (29), Claude Giroux (29) and Sidney Crosby (28) have more points than Simmonds (27).
That is about where the impressive numbers end. In the analytics and advanced-stats world, Simmonds would not be lauded as an MVP-caliber player. He is the 247th ranked player in the NHL in relative Corsi percentage - the Flyers get 0.6 percent fewer shot attempts when he is on the ice compared to when he is on the bench, according to ExtraSkater.com.
Simmonds seems to be one of those players, though, best measured in person and not on paper. Outside of a 10-foot radius around the net, the puck is never on Simmonds' stick longer than a second or two.

You would pass up a player like this because he's a Center?
