hd? - -davies-
I guess it depends on what channel the game was on. I watch them ON Demand and I hope it's HD. Watching a game in normal definition sucks. |

Depends on what the spot is. Most agree that Akeson's lone spot is a top-6 scoring line because he lacks...well, he's basically Briere lite. McGinn's more of a traditional bottom-6 guy who can play sporadically on the top-6. - jmatchett383
If Downie gets injured again or is so bad he's a healthy scratch I would give Akeson an extended chance to play with Coots and Read. It may not work, but it would keep the Raffl-Hall-Rinaldo 4th line rolling.
If he's slow and make plenty of mental mistakes on defense that cost us goals well then that will be similar to having bad-Downie in the lineup. But maybe, his offensive skills would be a good complement to Couturier and Read. |

Bill wrote about this a while back. Asked a scout why the Flyers sent him down, and the scout told him that he just doesnt project into a full-time NHL player. His skill-set isnt good enough to make up for his foot-speed, or something like that. - youarewrong
Yeah, it's that his defensive shortcomings will not be offset by his offensive production at the AHL level (at least speculatively). Which is why I'm kinda surprised we haven't been shopping him to a team like Nashville/Buffalo/Florida/etc. |

I didn't say he was, and I dont think anyone expected him too.
Regardless of what league he started in this year, the kids biggest deficiency is his skating. That's all I'm saying. The rest of his game is very, very good.
edit: Phantoms aren't a great offensive team period. - mochoson
I just don't understand why people think they can project Cousins to be an NHL player when he hasn't demonstrated much at the AHL level. |

The thought has crossed my mind, but it's a really small sample size we're talking about. I would not be rushing to extend Timonen, but I'm not sure moving him at the TDL is wise. I'd like to see this team give it their best if they make the playoffs. - BulliesPhan87
I dont understand why people are rushing to get rid of Timonen. He is the Flyers' best defenseman right now. If they don't re-sign him they will need to find someone to replace him. No one, in house, can replace him. |

Downie (UFA) Keep him and let him walk
B. Schenn (RFA) Check comments below
Hall (UFA) Resign at 1m 1or2 years
Kimmo (UFA) He will not take a pay cut and may retire, thanks for the years
Mez (UFA) Attempt to resign but at 2.5-3 for 2 years, if not trade before deadline
Gus (RFA) Resign
Gill (UFA) Thanks but no thanks
Emery (UFA) Resign if he's willing to comeback at same salary
As for Schenn, this was a make or break season for him, he has shown his upside this year and looks like a future 60-80 pointer. I would suggest sending him and Grossman to Calgary along with a first round pick. In return we ask for Mike Cammalleri and Dennis Wideman and Calgary absorbing 1/2 of Wideman's cap hit. How do you feel about this? - ICUBB
I have less than zero interest in trading a young 60-80 point player under RFA protection for Cammalleri and Wideman, even if Calgary absorbs 100% on both salaries. If he's a guaranteed 60-80 point player, I'm signing him to a 6-year deal. |

This team as a whole needs to take the next step and create a culture in the room where they are accountable to themselves and to their teammates. Besides the upgrades to the roster that need happen, creating that environment is critical. - MJL
Yes. I think they have taken steps forward, but there is still room for that growth, for the mindset that expects to win and expects everybody to do everything they can to contribute to that culture.
The "expects to win" mentality seems to have slipped away from this team a bit in the last few seasons. But that's not really a surprise given the changes. Still, time to get it back. |

They might, and if that's the case, I'm not 100% opposed to it. But I don't see him as a long-term fit on the 3rd line, and unlike McGinn, he can't shift down to the 4th if needed. |

and if he doesn't play for the flyers the next two games but plays in the olympics i'll be a little irritated |

I disagree that this was a make or break season for B Schenn. And I give an emphatic no to the proposed trade. No way. |

I don't think you should be. It sounds like a bad bruise that just needs time and rest to heal, and the Finns first game isn't until the 13th. |

a significant # of their core players (forwards mainly) are still babies in this league.
Simmonds, Couts and B Schenn were among the leaders in ice time last night.
I think it's easy to forget but two of these guys are still on their entry level deals.
I guess what I'm trying to say is it takes time to get there. |

Are you implying that sight lines and open shooting lanes are more important that just burying your head and firing as soon as possible? - jmatchett383
Streit must have heard some of those calls to "shoot it" last night on that one powerplay shift when he shot straight into Marleau. |

I won't be. The guy has played through tremendous pain for several years for this franchise.
The idea that he'd be saving himself for the Olympics isn't in his DNA. If he misses these games, but plays in the Olympics, it will be because he healed up in time. |

I don't think the Flyers feel that Akeson is a fit for that role. I think if Akeson has any chance to make the NHL, he needs to remake himself as a player, and get much better away from the puck. |
