If the Flyers offered Timonen at the deadline, they'd have to hire a new person to help answer the phone. - MJL
If they traded Timonen, they'd be giving up on the season. |

There's no doubt that they have to upgrade the defensive mix. But they have a very strong corps of young forwards, and the future is very bright for this team. They have to continue to evolve, make a few key moves. And there's no reason why they can't develop into a top team. - MJL
I would say the forward corps need to be tweaked, and if you make the wrong tweak it could be disaterous. I think they need to trade either Schenn, Couturier, or Laughton for a speedy scoring winger. And they should either trade Simmonds or Voracek for that top Number 1 d-man. I would lean more toward Simmonds as Hartnell and Simmonds are same type of players and his value is sky high right now. |

He could put a team like Anaheim over the top. |

I'm just going to disagree with basically your entire post, pending who your proposed #1 dman is. If he plays for Winnipeg, then I strongly object. |

Downie (UFA) Keep him and let him walk
B. Schenn (RFA) Check comments below
Hall (UFA) Resign at 1m 1or2 years
Kimmo (UFA) He will not take a pay cut and may retire, thanks for the years
Mez (UFA) Attempt to resign but at 2.5-3 for 2 years, if not trade before deadline
Gus (RFA) Resign
Gill (UFA) Thanks but no thanks
Emery (UFA) Resign if he's willing to comeback at same salary
As for Schenn, this was a make or break season for him, he has shown his upside this year and looks like a future 60-80 pointer. I would suggest sending him and Grossman to Calgary along with a first round pick. In return we ask for Mike Cammalleri and Dennis Wideman and Calgary absorbing 1/2 of Wideman's cap hit. How do you feel about this? - ICUBB

I have to agree, if your going to make all those moves, then Buff would not be the guy I would go after. Not saying I have anyone in mind though.
If the Flyers do go out and get Buff, then I think they need to hold onto the guys they have and sign Gaborik in UFA. Cause if you go after Buff I think the time to go for it is in the next few seasons. |

[quote=PhillySportsGuy]Timonen is still incredibly steady. He would be a very good 2nd pairing defenseman on a very good team.
And maybe he stays with team ( at reasonable price) next year as that solid 2 pair man after we get a legit #1.

If he had a slapshot as heavy as Weber's or Chara's, then he can bury his head and blast away. It's either on net or killing someone. - jmatchett383
Agreed! If you have a shot heavy enough to kill someone, players would be less apt to try and block it! Then you can say "go ahead, it's your funeral"!!
One hing not mentioned in the better play of the last few games, is the emergence of a decent 4th line. Since Raffl has been there, it makes the other team respect them, takes valuable productive minutes from the other team, while giving your own guys needed rest so they are fresher in the third, and on back to back games. The best teams in the league roll four lines consistantly. |

Are you referring to the Gaborik who scored 3 goals in 12 games last year, the one who's scored 5 goals in 18 games this year, or the one who scored 9 games in 35 games 2 years ago?
They could just go resign Zherdev for cheaper. |

I don't agree that there is this big need for a sniper. And there's no way in hell I would trade Couturier for a speedy scoring Winger. That would be a collossal mistake. And it better be a very good defenseman to trade Simmonds or Voracek. That Hartnell and Simmonds are the same player is irrelvant in my opinion. |

In my view of getting faster, I wonder if there is any way to get Baertschi and the rights to Gaudreau and Calgary's first.
Say... Couturier, Read, Flyers 1st for Baertschi, Gaudreau, and Calgary 1st. |

Why in the hell are you trying to trade Read and Coots for 2 guys who have like 50 combined NHL games, especially when there;s a chance you can get one for 0 assets? |

I can't wait until Couturier gets to what he's going to be, to show how all of these trade proposals involving Couturier would be a collossal blunder. |

Downie (UFA) - I like him with Couts and Read, sign him to a 1-2 year deal for same or less $.
B. Schenn (RFA) - Bridge deal, 2-3 years 2-3 mil per.
Raffl (RFA) - Similar to Read, can play on different lines, 2-3 year deal, small bump up in salary.
Hall (UFA) - Adios. Laughton with Raffl and Rinaldo will be a nice 4th line.
Kimmo (UFA) - Retirement.
Mez (UFA) - Deadline deal, bye.
Gus (RFA) - 2-3 year deal, around 1 mil per.
Gill (UFA) - Enjoy retirement.
Emery (UFA) - Thanks for your efforts, other back-ups can be equal for less.

This!!!!
Simmons will score those ugly goals in the dirty areas. Hartnell, as much as I like the guy, exasperates me. Ever since he had that 30 goal season, he isn't quite as willing to play in the dirty areas of the crease as much. He was hard to move FROM the crease during that stretch! Has anyone told him, he isn't the next Gretzky? While he can finish a pretty one once in a while, he is built for power and mayhem. I played much bigger than my size in school and college. It was how I needed to play to be effective and useful. Are ya listening SH??? |
