Solid win. Third was shaky at times but they got it done. 2 points. Now toss the Emery in for the Flames right before the break and let Mase rest for bit. |

Funny how you say that and one of the responses is that he leaves his defense partner out to dry.
Amazing how one player is perceived. The guy who is actually playing well is dragging down the guy who hasn't been. But if Streit weren't playing well, the other guy would be....being dragged down by Streit.
Poor Mark Streit -- his defense partner can't seem to play well, no matter what he does or doesn't do - AllInForFlyers
Video can easily show how many times Streit has either blown a coverage, or lost a physical battle in his own end, leading to a scoring chance or a goal against, where Grossmann has had to try and cover for it. It's happened a lot, especially in the first half of the Season. Both players have had stretches of good play, and bad play.
But it really comes down to is what kind of players both are. Both have a role and both have played their roles well this year. Streit is an offensive puck moving defenseman, who brings that skill set to the ice. That is evident, and he has gotten better and better as the year has gone on offensively. You expect and live with the physical issues that Streit has in his own end.
With Grossmann, it's the opposite. No matter how well he plays, even if he plays to the best of his ability, he is never going to be a good puck mover, or a driver of possession. Might as well criticize Grossmann for not scoring goals. But he is on the team to provide physical defensive play, block shots, and play a lot of time in defensive situations.

No one has criticized Streit in a long time. He's played well and done what they brought him in to do. - PhillySportsGuy
Exactly, but I guess stating that Streit isn't the team's best defenseman is the same as saying Streit sucks and isn't playing well. Go figure.

So who thinks the Flyers would have let Chara leave early for the Olympics and miss two games, if he were on the team? |

I was going to bring that up and ask what you guy's thought of that. My opinion is that it's wrong. And it shouldn't happen. Team and job before Country in this case.

Makes it a little easier to let him leave early considering he helped hoisted the cup recently. I think Boston is doing the right thing.
