Ed Snider calls Olympics a "farce." Says Giroux is "better than half the guys" on Team Canada. #Flyers
Now, I know the Chairman doesn't get a bunch of love here, but I agree with EVERY WORD that he said here. |

I was going to bring that up and ask what you guy's thought of that. My opinion is that it's wrong. And it shouldn't happen. Team and job before Country in this case. - MJL
I think it's an interesting case. Chara has done so much for that franchise and they are in good position to make the playoffs, so 2 games won't really matter all that much. |
|
|
|
Exactly, but I guess stating that Streit isn't the team's best defenseman is the same as saying Streit sucks and isn't playing well. Go figure. - MJL
The only reason I mentioned it was the Streit signing was being vilified most of the season and Homer really blew it by not resigning Carle. Long way to go and it's a risky 35+ contract, but considering the alternative so far so good. |

I was one who didn't like the Streit or Vinny deals. Streit has been good. I worry about his ability to sustain this for, at least, 2 more seasons. I have doubts about him being effective in his 4th season.

I have no problem with the Streit signing. He brings an element to the ice that's needed on this team. But rest assured that if and when Streit has a period where he struggles, he'll suck again. We see it with most players.

Even if he just had cramps, ain't no sin to give Razor a start on Saturday. |

I wouldn't mind either way, but I might go back to Mason. He's been hot and about to get 2.5 weeks off. He's, also, getting two days between games.
Like I said, I see no problem giving Emery the start. They should beat Calgary with either in net if they play like they have recently. |

Well, one he's standing up for his guy, as he should. And secondly, it's not about who's a better player, and it never has been. If they were just ranking the players by who is the best player, 1-25 or whatever, Giroux would've made the team.

I agree, but man was Mason good tonight. If he's not hurt, then play him, get another two points. Plenty of time to rest after that.

I believe Streit is the heir apparent to be the QB on #1 PP unit when Kimmo is done. I could argue at this point in their careers, Streit is the better option right now. However, it's really splitting hairs. No real issue with the Streit contract.

There are a number of questionable selections over Giroux. It seemed like they were cutting off their nose to spite their face.
There is something they didn't like about Giroux. I could see someone with influence hating Giroux similar to the way Burke talked about Ryan and Yandle.
I just have a hard time seeing how guys like Duchene were selected ahead of Giroux. |

On the PP, I agree. I'd have him on the first unit right now personally. He has a big shot. But he does make the 2nd unit better, so there's a catch 22.

I want Streit on the first unit. I love Kimmo too, but Streit's shot is such a weapon. |

Standing up for "his guys" is why former players love Snider. Everyone likes when their boss takes their side; I like seeing the Old Man pump G's tires.
And you're right. I know what Yzerman is trying to achieve with how he picked his team. I just think it's gonna fail. Miserably. |

I've said multiple times, I would have picked Giroux over Duchene. The only thing I can figure is they like to have that speed as an option. Not that Giroux is slow, but Duchene is really quick. Honestly, in my opinon, it has nothing to do with anything like that. It's that they view Giroux as a top scoring line Center, and they think that Crosby, Toews, and Getzlaff are better choices. That's all it comes down to in my opinion. |

His shot from the point in terms of accuracy and velocity is in the neighborhood of Pronger's shot. So much of the first PP unit is based on having two guys camped out in front, more then I think the 2nd PP unit who tends to look for Vinny on the half boards looking for the one timer.
Streit could probably get over 12+ goals per season if he was on the first PP unit. I just don't believe Kimmo is capable of that production at this stage of his career. However, both PP units are pretty effective currently constructed.

I know
What bothers me most is that people keep saying 'Oh, Giroux will have many chances to make the team.'
#1. That's not true. The Canadian center position is incredibly competitive. Guys like Toews, Crosby, Tavares, McKinnon, Getzlaf, Stamkos aren't going anywhere and are all young.
#2. The NHL may not allow players to go to the Olympics after this time. |

i like seeing the flyers faithful get riled up and all, but carter of giroux is a travesty. i understand they probably have a specific role in mind for that slot and think carter better fills it than giroux, but i dont know. i would think giroux's playmaking would be a tremendous asset. i wouldnt say necessarily over half the the guys on there, but he definitely wouldve been on the roster had i been picking. |

Giving Sid his personal winger was kinda funny.
It's obvious Yzerman likes size on the wing and thinks it'll matter. Marty SL may not be big in stature, but he plays big.
I just think the big ice will eat this team up. |
