Giving Sid his personal winger was kinda funny.
It's obvious Yzerman likes size on the wing and thinks it'll matter. Marty SL may not be big in stature, but he plays big.
I just think the big ice will eat this team up. - johndewar
kunitz will have a very positive impact on the teams overall play. we can debate how he got there all we want, but while there, his well rounded game will definitely be a big plus. likely one of the better players in the corners on the entire roster. i realize thats not exactly a typical ticket to an olympic roster, but his potential for contribution shouldnt be overlooked. |

His shot from the point in terms of accuracy and velocity is in the neighborhood of Pronger's shot. So much of the first PP unit is based on having two guys camped out in front, more then I think the 2nd PP unit who tends to look for Vinny on the half boards looking for the one timer.
Streit could probably get over 12+ goals per season if he was on the first PP unit. I just don't believe Kimmo is capable of that production at this stage of his career. However, both PP units are pretty effective currently constructed. - ravishingone
Streit is pretty much on pace for about 12 goals right now, and it could go higher if he stays hot. Timonen doesn't seem like he wants to shoot the puck much this year. It's s a catch 22. Adding that big shot to the first unit makes the two guys down low even more dangerous, and opens it up for Giroux and Voracek on the half wall. But it would weaken the 2nd unit. |

i like seeing the flyers faithful get riled up and all, but carter of giroux is a travesty. i understand they probably have a specific role in mind for that slot and think carter better fills it than giroux, but i dont know. i would think giroux's playmaking would be a tremendous asset. i wouldnt say necessarily over half the the guys on there, but he definitely wouldve been on the roster had i been picking. - stayinthefnnet
Adding Carts just tells me they want size on the wing, period. |

If it was a question of who's the better player, Giroux would've made the team over Carter. But it's not.

He's 11th in points despite his terrible start. Ed Snider is right, he is better than half the players on the roster. A player like that shouldn't be left off the team. Even if they want to use him as a reserve, he's better than Duchene and more equipped to handle a bottom line role because he kill penalties. |

They believe on a bigger ice, Duchene is a better player than Giroux. |

Size and skating, as well as the big shot and being able to score from distance. As well as playing a strong 2 way game. Carter is big time player whether Flyers fans want to admit it or not.

I'm actually intrigued to see how the Russian team plays on home ice. Actually looking forward to seeing Kovy and Radulov play against NHL competition again. |

Rafflfries!
Streit and Coburn played well. Team D has certainly taken some steps forward the last few games.
Glad Mason wasn't seriously hurt, and it's good he gets some rest over the Olympics.
Flyers need to do more with those gift 5 minute majors.
And thank you Edmonton! |

I don't know what to make of Mark Streit. He makes me nuts.
I also don't know what to make of what Kimmo is doing. I do know that Kimmo did have a pretty good statistical year last year and I don't know if the numbers back it up, but it doesn't seem like he's firing the puck as much as last year. |

If they were choosing an all star team, I'd agree with you. But they aren't. Killing penalties isn't going to get Giroux on the team. He not that good at it.

Amazing offensive talent, no defense what so ever.
I feel bad for Bob and Varlamov (whoever gets the nod). |

you dont have to sell me on it. i understand the whole trying to make the best team over purely picking the best players. but i dont think they are necessarily exclusive in the case of giroux. correct me if im wrong, but didnt giroux have decent wing experience when younger? if he still has any of those instincts, the ability to play off-position would have been a huge plus for me. realistically, he wouldnt be getting much time at center if he went, but still. MSL is the perfect example of a winger being able to actually dictate the playmaking aspects from the side rather than the center position. and its not as if giroux is actually slow by any means. when he actually cares to backcheck, ive always thought he is a good penalty killer as well. he also has more playoff experience than someone like duchene. to me, he doesnt make it over crosby, toews, tavares, and bergeron as far as centers go. after that, you can make as good a case for him as any. |

Nash has repped the Maple Leaf in many International tourneys. This Olympic invite for Nash is more of a lifetime achievement award from Hockey Canada than anything else. |

It comes down to what Bill Meltzer has talked about frequently as far as what type of defenseman there are in the League. Have to accept that Streit has his weaknesses and his strengths. It's only when he's not providing the type of things that he's best at, that he looks bad. Same with Grossmann, both players have a role, and they do it well. That's why both have been in the NHL as long as they have. And why judging Grossmann on his puck moving ability and possession game is foolish.
