Coburn should be shooting t-shirts out of air rifles between periods. At best. - wolfhounds
He'd be a better Phantom's mascot than Dax or whatever. What happened to Phlex? |

He's definitely picked up his game, no doubt. Same with L Schenn. Funny how when the forwards are more committed defensively, the whole team looks better.
Streit with his whirlygigs at the blue line still makes me nervous from time to time, but I'll grant that he seems to know what he's doing there... - wolfhounds
Everyone has gotten better. Even Grossmann seems to have worked his way out of his slump.
I like what Streit has brought. I just think it's a little ridiculous to call him our best defenseman when he doesn't face the toughest match ups or play on the PK. |

Where ever anyone wants to put him in the best defenseman on the team ratings. I think the most important thing is that Striet is doing what he was signed for, and has been very effective for a while now. - MJL
Agreed.
Even more so: There have only been two or three games of the 55 I've watched this season where his "compete level" appeared to be lacking.
Not a perfect player, but at the same time, we don't have any perfect players. But it'd be nice to have the guy not always tethered to someone else's performance and just have him judged by what he does or doesn't do.
Because Streit has done everything he was supposed to do, and at the salary level he's being paid.

But when the inevitable turn in his play comes, and he has a period of struggles, I'm sure he will suck again. - MJL
He's definitely getting it done and doing exactly what we brought him in to do. And he's looking better defensively as well, no doubt. Looks like he's hitting his stride, getting comfortable with the team, organization, coaches, system, etc. Just hope the Olympics don't set things back too far. |

Yeah, but he's not playing protected minutes, though -- for better or worse, because of the composition of the defense, he's playing honest-to-gosh Top 4 minutes -- he only averages 20 seconds less than Timonen.
He's out there against good players, too.

I think a lot of Streit's problem (with fans) is the way he skates. He's not very fast, and it's a very effortless-looking stride, so I can see people getting on him about that. I'll admit, I expected him to be faster than he is, but I'm okay with it. The thing that had me worried was his unwillingness to shoot the puck earlier on. That's his main weapon. He seems a lot more comfortable with it now. |

Regardless of how high a person's pain threshold is, a reasonable person, especially someone who has played a lot of Hockey and received a lot of the typical aches and pains. Should be able to recognize the difference between that and something serious. In my opinion Lindros acted stupidly, and should've gone to the trainers, and gotten checked out. And it almost cost him his life. - MJL
I can't say I know how painful a punctured lung would be but maybe it wasn't that serious seeming of an injury to Lindros. It depends on the person and injury. For example I recently blew my achilles (see below). Looks like it would be painful, no? Surgeon said that some people find it painful, some don't. The hernia surgery I had back in 1998 was way more painful. Now the inability to bear weight part is full of major sucktitude, but on the whole, aside from some cramping in my calf, this has not been bad...then again, according to my wife, I can be pretty unreasonable.

Good question. Last I heard he was in the hospital because Duffman kicked his ass for sleeping with Dufflady.

I agree. I like to take into consideration what kind of skillset and type of player he is. Along with the situations a player is put in, when looking at how a player has played. |

Phlex went off to live with Phil and Phyllis, Big Shot, and Hip Hop in the land of discarded Philadelphia sports team mascots. |

Yes, that does look pretty bad. I actually laughed when I dislocated my toe (it was turned 90 degrees), and was surprising cool when I cracked my head open and had to get it stapled closed. I didn't realize I put teeth through my lower lip until I had blood on my neck. Some of that may have been adrenaline/shock, but yeah, pain threshold can vary from person to person. For a guy who played as physical of a game as Lindros, I'm guessing he was used to pretty serious pain. |

I would guess - and I don't know for certain - it goes Kimmo/Coburn, Schenn/Gus, then Gross/Streit. |

He raises my blood pressure with his defensive zone play.
It has been nice to see him assert himself offensively, however. |

I honestly can't think of a better choice. Maybe Selanne or Salo? The Fins have a lot of savvy vets. Lasse Kukkonen anyone? |

Probably depends on how you want to look at it. According to extraskater, Grossmann sees the highest percentage of D zone starts among the defenseman. And Timonen sees the least among the defenseman. But that's only one part of it. |

Forgot about Selanne. This is, without a doubt, his last hurrah. So yeah, he may get it. |

I had a patient about 2 years ago who had broken three ribs and punctured his lung. It took him three days to finally cave in to his (ER doc) wife and come see us. He was admitted immediately and a chest tube was put in within 50 minutes of his diagnosis. He ended up spending three days in the hospital draining the lung and making sure it didnt collapse and what have you. Very lucky man.
Moral of the story? Somethings- even very serious injuries- dont have the same degree of pain as they would on others. I lasted 2 days with a dislocated hip. Others cant last 2 seconds. |

My dad worked a full day of climbing trees and carrying 200+ pound logs with a broken foot. That's because my dad's the man. That still amazes me.

It flat-out can't be Schenn -- he's averaging less than 16 minutes per night. He's the one being shielded.
Coburn-Timonen sees the toughest matchups, but Grossmann-Streit are the second pair, by quite a large margin.
