Doubtful. I don't think we'll see much trading from this team for the rest of the season.

I could see them moving Downie. There really aren't many defenseman available who will upgrade this team without having to overpay.

Could have been the tail end of the flu... no longer contagious, but still dehydrated... I mean JJ said it was going through the team.
- youarewrong

I don't think they would have played him if he had the flu. He may have had a cold. Regardless, it was a very strong effort. Lets talk about that instead.

Agreed -- only five or less defined sellers as of today; unless it's a straight-up hockey trade, going to be tough for a few teams to do business.

Do think there's some smoke and fire with Sam Gagner, but the Flyers wouldn't appear to be in on something like that.

If the right move presented itself, then he would. I just don't see the Flyers being sellers if they're in contention. I just hope he doesn't go all in and look to acquire a rental for a high draft pick or prospect.

The smaller moves end up working well a lot of the time. Getting a third line player to play with Read and Couturier wouldn't cost a lot and would enable them to move Downie.

As a side note, anyone think Flyers will make a trade today?
- Streit2ThePoint

Probably not. Gotta think they feel good about the team right now.

I don't think so. They don't need another center and Gagner isn't really equipped to handle the wing. He's, also, a playmaker, which is a position the Flyers have a lot of.

I dont want them to be buyers or sellers right now. I think when we get close to deadlines like this people think in order to make a deal one team has to be a seller and one has to be a buyer. As you posted in another thread, there are "hockey trades" Or as I like to call them lateral moves. Where each team gets about the same value back for each player. Example... We get a young defenseman for a young center.

i was thinking that too. i can't see them throwing in the towel and i hope they don't try to make a deal where they have to move one or more of the the young guys.
what was your reaction to the hit on schenn? i didn't get home until the 3rd so i didn't see it live. patrick whaaaaa seemed to think it was a clean hit from the replay of his reaction on the bench

Seems like a lot of factors are going to limit the amount of trades this year.

Not sure if he thought it was a clean hit, or he thought it didn't warrant a major penalty. If he thought the latter, I agree with him.

I would think that after the CBA negotiations were over and the announcement of the increased cap, there would be a lot of movement this year. What are the factors that make you think there wont be? The only one I can think of is the teams being so close in the standings that few teams are really "out".

Most will have to be even salary trades I'd think, what with the whole league being cap strapped. Or more trades like Chicago's made, with salary retained by a seller.

It definitely wasn't clean and deserved to be a penalty. Whether it deserved 2 or 5 is up for debate. Schenn put himself in a bad situation, but it was a reckless hit.

Schenn went down right away and looked hurt, but popped back up to join the scrum behind the net. His initial reaction may have helped get the 5 minutes.

I don't think he was faking though. Sometimes, when you're hit hard, you lay there and need to take a minute and inspect your body. It's like you feel you should be seriously hurt but everything is in the right place. Your body kind of disagrees with your mind for a few seconds.

The artificially lowered cap ceiling is a big factor.

The increased Cap has zero effect right now on teams ability to make moves. That number is not official as of yet, it is just a projection. Teams cap space, tagging space etc. is still based on the current Cap figure.

We may have more trades involving players under contract for next season. With the cap going up, teams will be willing to take on more money.

Teams don't have that ability yet. The cap figure that every team has to work with is still 64.3M.

Flyers could use some help on the blueline and a sniping winger or a big bodied crease presence scoring winger would would never be a bad addition. My prediction...Holmer deals for a hard nosed mucker-grinder. It is the Flyer way.

Sometimes what a GM adds is based on what player he was able to afford cap wise, what deal 2 teams were able to agree on, and what players are available. Rather then what kind of player a GM prefers.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind getting a good 4th line player with speed. It would allow Raffl to move up and play on the third line. He's more than ready to do that.

I remember thinking that would loosen up the trade market some -- Brian Burke totally thought so, which is why he proposed it -- but no one quite imagined teams being so reticent to retain even a dime of salary for players not in their organization.

We haven't had a ton of movement, maybe won't, until either teams change that mindset or we hit this summer, where everybody's getting at least $6-plus million, if they're spending at the cap now.

yeah, probably that. had an interesting take on the game in his post game interview; very positive about both teams and the way the game was played. he was asked about the hit twice but politely refused to discuss it. \

i agree that it was not a major
