Unfortunately, I think it took getting traded to light a fire under JVR. Im not so sure he has that type of year had he still been here. - hereticpride
Possible, but he's averaging similar G/per 60 totals in Toronto as he did here, so it's really just playing a bigger role with a consistent 1st line spot.
His all around game is better though. He's improved as a passer and is more consistent in his effort for sure. Could be a wake up from trade, could be maturity |

just realized VL is a -15 this season... and he's not winning faceoffs. i thought this to be a good signing at the time... now it just reminds me of briere where he didn't seem to have a good spot to play on any line during his last season here |

Salary wise too it wouldnt have worked, someone wouldnt be here most likely Vinny never gets signed and Flyers are still looking for a young D prospect. Imagine this D without Luke Schenn, and thats after this season. Timmo and Mez will be both be gone. However I think you could have gotten much better value for JVR, i think everyone agreed at the time the Flyers didnt get back enough on the trade. Looks even worse now obviously.

He started out well, then got hurt in the Caps blowout...really hasn't been the same since.
I liked adding him, too, but he's been struggling to find his spot |

hopefully the olympic break gives him time to heal up. might be the only thing i like about this stoppage. we need VL to find his game once the playoffs begin. |

I hope that Berube finds a spot for him. I think they may need Schenn to play wing and adapt |

Tim Panaccio @tpanotchCSN now
BTW: talked to an NHL scout yesterday. He says Morin is going to be a monster No. 1 d-man someday. Great news for the Flyers

The scout is probably Panaccio's dog.
I don't see the offensive upside in Morin they keep talking about. I like his defensive ability and he's capable of making a nice first pass. I see him as a combination of Coburn and L. Schenn. Tall, physical and a very good skater for his size.
Edit: The reference about the dog is about Panaccio's poor journalism. Not that Morin has no upside or that I don't like him because I do. - PhillySportsGuy

i would value schenns development over preference for VL. although i guess you can argue that schenn being younger would be better able to adapt. |

Schenn has shown he can play solidly on a wing....although I agree I'd prefer him at center and Lecavalier on wing |

Everything I've found had put Weber as the #42 ranked prospect overall, and the #11 ranked defenseman.
As a side note... Brayden Coburn was the #1 ranked defensive prospect that year - fecondo
I got to watch Coburn play for the Winterhawks - along with Dubinsky. Coburn was a stud. |

Vinny was our best player until he broke his back. Will take quite awhile to get back to 100%. |

If he ever does, sorry, I did not like this signing when it went down, hate it even more now. He had 16 years on his body going into this season, & he received a contract for 5 more?
I was a VL fan, 2006, 2007, 2008 etc.
Not 2013, 2014, 2015 & on |

He had 14 years playing for the Lightning, and only missed games last year after taking a shot to the foot. If you somehow knew in July he was going to suffer a major back injury in December you should have told someone. |

The more question marks teams are likely to have about a prospect, the further that prospect is going to drop. For Weber:
1) He wasn't a full-time Dman until his mid-teens,
2) Average skater at the time, didn't carry the puck well (still doesn't),
3) Offensive upside was a question
Coburn, on the other hand, only had #3 as a concern. Everything else was off the charts. |

I have two dogs. I like dogs more than humans. I just don't quite trust their ability to scout players yet. |

He really took off the year AFTER he was drafted. He was just a late bloomer. By the end of his time in Juniors, he was a no doubt, top prospect. |

Weber's success probably helped Ryan Pulock's draft status, too. His relative ease of switching full time to defense kind of mirrors Pulock's move to defense in his teens. |

Why did PK Subban drop all the way to middle of the 2nd round? |

He wasn't very big. He plays a lot bigger than he is. |
