Jagr, at the grand old age of, what, 42, is having his most productive season since returning to the NHL. Granted, he HIS a first-ballot HOFer. Selanne's career had also disappeared into mediocrity before he turned 35 and became an impact player again at 35 in the 05/06 season. Again, he's a likely HOFer. But it can be done.

Jagr's one of the greatest offensive players of all time, ditto Selanne.

Vinny's more on the level of Iginla's and Heatley's... once very very good players, but do they have the preternatural vision and wheels to overcome physical decline?

That's why I posted the caveat that they're both HOFers. My only point was that it COULD be done. Whether or not he can is still (IMO) yet to be seen. Also, it's not as Vinny's some broken-down grandpa. Most of his injuries prior to his back injury (from what I recall) were mostly hands/foot injuries.

Vinny had 32 points in 39 games last year.

He's not even old. I attribute his statistical year thus far to nothing more than adjusting to new surroundings.

Is he going to be an 80+ point player again? No. But were talking about a former 1st overall, 50 goal, 100 point player here. To assume he's capable of producing around 60 points in a healthy season through the duration of his deal is not even remotely far-fetched, in my opinion.

He hasn't been physically 100% since the mid 2000's... even if he hasn't missed games, he's been slowed by a variety of ailments -- shoulders, knees, wrists, ankle, foot, face, back... there's virtually no part of his body that hasn't endured some level of trauma.

Yeah, I'm not buying the injury distress either. Honestly, I'm more concerned about his trouble finding an effective spot in the lineup than how prone he is to injury, and it's only been a bit over half a season.

Yeah, for 16-years... in hockey years, he's a lot closer to 40 than his actual age.

im just saying your posts are somewhat hard to read most people on here are very good at clearly using proper punctuation to break up their thoughts its easier to read that way dont you agree

So glad we have such an expert such as yourself policing these things, you need to add that to your resume, hockeybuzz punctuation expert.

Well, you mentioned a guy like Iginla, who was still a 30-goal scorer into his mid-30s who played a MUCH more physical style. Or take a guy like Thornton who's a year older, has missed games in all but 5 of his 16 seasons, and is still a good player. I think those 2 are fair comparisons. Iginla's more of a goal scorer, Thornton's a primary assist man, and VL is somewhere in between. But they're contemporaries who I'd put on about the same level.

I'm not one of the grammar police, as I'm not gonna knock the guy for incorrect use of a semicolon or something. I simply stated that using elementary school-level punctuation and capitalization makes sentences easier to read and separates thoughts. I thought that was a world-wide truth. Apparently, some people are insulted by that.

Players don't tend to fade linearly into the sunset... for most guys, one day it just suddenly catches up with them and their production plummets, as they can no longer hold off younger players for cushy line assignments and coveted PP time.

Doesn't that sound like what's happening w/ Vinny for the past couple of seasons? Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn stole his ice in Tampa... Schenn, Coots (and soon Laughton) are doing it here.

Can he pull a Modano/Primeau and transition into a defensive role? With Couturier already in the lineup, would that even be a help?

Okay, let's assume he's old, crippled, and useless. Is there a solution to the problem, or are we just gonna bash Homer a little bit more?

I hear you. I was actually trying to be reasonably nice about it. I think he meant that I was implying that he didn't have a grade school education, which wasn't my intent at all. butfromnowonillnevergaiancalloutanyoneforthewaytheywanttoconveyathought

Whats done is done, but I can't help but wonder why the team signed a center to play wing instead of a winger to play winger. I know they loved Vinny's talent, I think this team takes a leap of faith with too many free agents.
