USA, even though they don't have the best D they do have some solid fire power and Miller is a great goalie on a very bad team. If you put even an average team in front of him the team will have a chance to play for Gold.
Sweden is lacking depth in offense compared to Canada and the USA. Berglund, Jimmie Ericsson, Hagelin, Kruger, Nyquist, Silfverberg, Johansson, these are good players but not compared to Carter, Been, Duchese, St Louis, Nash on Canada or Pacioretty, Stepan, Wheeler, Kesler, Callahan, Brown on the USA team. I can't comment much on Russia's depth as they have lots from the JHL that I'm unsure of.
Russia is lacking in defense what Sweden is lacking in offense. Belov, Emelin, Nikitin, Tyutin, Voynov (NHL players) are nothing compared to Canada's D, Subban, Vlasic, Hamhuis, Bouwmeester, Pietrangelo, or Swedens Edler, Ericsson, Kronwall, Oduya, Hjalmarsson. The USA even has better D than the Russian team with Faulk, Martin, McDonagh, Carlson, Orpik. At least some of these guys have won something.
I did not compare the best to the best as they can sometimes cancel each other out but depth is something a lot of teams are lacking except for Canada.
Whatever the outcome, lets all enjoy as this could be the last Olympics that we get to see this kind of talent at. - currphij

Also agree. Playing in a contract year for his country sounds like plenty of motivation to me. |

seems like a lot of people are hesitant to make the obvious pick
canada is going to ruin teams
it will not be close

If they play up to their potential, they'll win gold for sure. |

You're insane. It is one of the most costly sports I've ever seen other than golf and skiing. I grew up in Montreal with tons of rinks available. Hockey costs a fortune when compared to soccer, football, volleyball, or baseball. But yea, those sports suck and certainly would never teach any of those life skill things hockey is so amazing at teaching - muffin_man
House baseball where I live on the west coast at Bantam costs $190.00 for 2 & a 1/2 months. You need cleats, a glove, a bat; optional, a jock, pants & a helmet. You play about 16 games & if lucky get 1 practice a week for an hour. Tournaments are optional & extra.
House hockey costs $375.00 for 7 months. You get at least 1 game a week & 1 50 minute 1/2 ice practice a week. Tournaments & more games are extra. You need skates, gloves, a helmet, jock, elbow pads, pants & shoulder pads.
Both sports provide socks & a jersey.
So hockey isn't really that much more expensive considering it's 7 months to 2 & a 1/2. & used gear is easier to acquire for hockey. |

OK and Miller was named MVP of teh tournament 4 years ago. neither of those things matter.
Have you seen Quicks recent starts this year?
In his last 10 starts. he has had a Sub .900 in 5 of them. and the 6th was a .900 exactly.
And he is coming off an injury. - ImThatGuy

I completely agree with you. Canada, then Sweden are by far the best defenses in this tourney. With Canada being the clear favorite. - Fanman
Sweden's defense didn't look all that great today. Anyone changing their mind on them after that game? |

First off, how did they "not look all that good"? I'll give you that the Czechs pressured them in the latter half of the game, but that was as much on account of the forwards. They also only gave up 2 goals- one of which shouldn't have counted, but I digress. |

Really? You think a defense corps that includes Justin Faulk, Paul Martin, and John Carlson is better than a defense corps where PK Subban is currently the 7th guy?
It astounds me that you're able to make a living off of hockey. - razr
Canada may not win. They might not even get a medal.
... but when your SEVENTH D-man is the defending Norris trophy winner, you have the best defense squad.

Karate, 1600/year is fairly pricey, but you don't have a lot of equipment costs and it is year round.

I don't know about you but I saw them getting pinned in their own end a lot and turning over the puck to an inferior team. Had that been against Canada, USA, or Russia's offense I think they would have been in trouble. You liked them, that's fine. I didn't. |

I assume you watched the 3rd period then? The first 2 had them dominating the game, but I guess you're right. We can't change what the other saw. |

I watched the whole thing. Yes, it wasn't close in the 1st period but didn't the Czechs score both of their goals in the 2nd? I'd hardly call that dominated. "Dominated" is one of the most overused words around here. |
