It might be an educated guess, but it's pretty legit.

Després is far from damaged goods. Big, mobile, two-way D. We don't have many of those in the prospect pool. I don't think his name is linked in trade rumors because he's a Franco, but rather because he doesn't have as much value to Pittsburgh as he used to since they are stacked on D prospects that are close to the NHL. They've got a premium, younger version of him in Maatta and will use Després as a trade chip.

François Gagnon has named Pittsburgh a few weeks ago as a possible new location for Markov at the trade deadline. He said it was pretty well known by the people around the NHL that PIT had a lot of interest in #79.

He also named WAS, because Ovechkin is a good friend of Markov. But it seems to be a more logical location if Markov hits UFA status.

Despres played for Gerard Gallant and was Bealieu's defensive partner with the Seadogs. There is the connection. He is 6'4 215 lb but not a real physical D. It will cost a lot more than Després to land Markov.

He isn't looking for a 5-years deal at 35. He might be looking for the same price tag though. MB should entertain offers and see if those offers are Worth trading him. I'm pretty sure he will get an offer he can't refuse.
