Thats a good rate for him. Pens have their work cut out for them this summer. Already at $55M and they need several players to fill out their roster. - PhillySportsGuy
Especially if Letang's medically cleared but chooses not to play. |

It would have been interesting to see him and Benn both of Dallas. Two premier power forwards (although Neal doesn't generally play like one much). Add in Nichuskinov and you've got 3 towers on your wings. - jmatchett383
Stars would certainly look a lot better with Niskanen and Neal. |

They can amnesty him under that circumstance. Is that a possibility? I was under the impression he will be fine. |

this is what could be problematic. but other than that, i dont think it will be too devastating. the trick as always will be spending it properly. giving orpik an extra 1.5 per year to retain him for traditions sake will be the type of things to cause problems. isnt the cap going up pretty significantly? so im told whenever im a scrooge mcduck with contracts haha |

No, they can only used amnesty on contracts signed before the new CBA. I believe Letang's was signed afterwards. |

Bill,
Not to be negative (more than usual), but I'd be interested in some Flyers WORST lists (top-10 busts, worst UFA signings, trades, etc.). Just a thought, if you have a day without much else going on. - jmatchett383
Those are the sorts of blog topics I do over the summer. But I will have a blog coming up on the Flyers remaining schedule difficulty, compared with the other teams in the race in the East. I will also mix in some other topics as well. It won't be all Olympics on days where there aren't multiple Flyers playing.

If the used a buyout, he's subject to the 2/3 salary over double the years and the penalties it carries. |

$71M. Pens are at $55M.
They have 7 forwards and 5 defenseman under contract for next year. This is assuming you want to go in with Zatkoff as your backup. |

Benn's rise in Dallas was what convinced Nieuwendyk they could withstanding trading Neal (Niskanen was deep in Marc Crawford's doghouse and needed a chance of scenery, anyway) to try to get a PP QB type in Goligoski.

he wont be bought out. i just cant see that.
but okay, for the sake of discussion, lets assume that he starts next year healthy and happy on his new big deal.
the pens have some decisions to make, but i dont think theyll be ultimately very hamstrung.
the questions on the D to be answered are obvious, but the guy under the radar that NEEDS to be resigned, and i mean need, is jussi jokinen |

It's taken a lot for Sheena to bump off Cecily Tynan as my favorite meteorologist.
And it's not like Cecily's game has faded much, if at all. More speaks to how great Sheena Parveen is.

If I remember correctly, that trade actually worked out better for Dallas for the remainder of the season. GoGo had some fairly good numbers in Dallas and I think Neal had 1 goal for Pittsburgh. Of course, since then, it's been as one-sided as it appeared. |

Edgar Masalskis is a hell of a goalie.
I remember watching him in the last Olympics and was almost sure this guy would be coming over to NA as a late bloomer ala Tim Thomas (29 then, I believe?). Even if he never made it out of the AHL, I thought he had the talent to do so.
Today only confirmed that I think he still can. Not just saying that because he stopped 38 of 39. He was sensational in net.
Don't think there's any NA interest though; if I'm not mistaken, I actually think the announcers today said he's not even playing on a club right now!? That's insane. |

You guys definitely can't re-sign Niskanen unless you move someone or plan on having a bunch of depth players all under $1M. |
