I'd take the World Cup over the Olympics any day, the 96 tournament was some of the best hockey I ever saw!
- BiggE

I'm OK with the Olympics, I just hate that they stop the season for two weeks while the games are happening.

The last time the Flyers played was 5 days ago. They don't play again for another two weeks. That's awful.

Basketball was an example. As in basketball is played during the summer olympics and does not interrupt the NBA.

Yeah but...you can't be playing hockey in Sydney when it's 82 degrees out....ya know?

True or false- soccer is part of the summer Olympics and has a World Cup every 4 years?

I'd be on board for a World Cup of Hockey type thing. Who cares if it's a "cash grab"? If anything, with the focus SOLELY being on hockey, more people would watch it (as opposed to having hockey itself diluted with the other sports in the Olympics).

Keep hockey in the Olympics and send amateurs there. College kids and juniors. Only problem is with sending out kids, it's just the WJC all over again

I like what they do in Europe with the Champions League. Would be interesting to see NHL participate at some level even if a series btwn Cup winner and Euro winnner

I completely agree
- PhillySportsGuy

Not only that, but the Sochi Olympics cost a reported 50 billion dollars to put on. Which is absolutely absurd. By my North American thinking, a lot of that money could be put to better use to help out with poverty, and other social issues. And an Olympic games can be produced for far less. I think the Salt Lake City games cost around 3 billion, if I'm not mistaken.

I agree 100% Stopping the season 2 months prior to the playoffs while risking injury to the games best players is just foolish.

Kind of, but you would also have some 21-23 year old college players as well

I remember it, vaguely. But it was kind of a one off and done. I do remember the grasshopper freezing on the ice, though

I do agree that Snider crapping on the Games before they even started was a pretty crotchety thing to do. The league and players already agreed to go -- female dog and moan about it after it's done if you really must, but at least show some respect while it's ongoing.

BTW, there already is a yearly World Championship of Hockey... forget a World Cup, how about lobby the IIHF to push the date back to allow for full NHL participation?

Yeah, I can agree it was crotchety...but that's Snider.

The best part was, after all the complaining, he seemed more mad Giroux wasn;t on the team

He isn't quick, but for just pure speed, he is a pretty fast guy. I see the bigger rink benefiting his game because he can get up a good head of steam and have more room to get around the defender on rushes.
