Lievo...... use the pick from Raymond to get a REAL 3rd liner that has more than tissue paper in his game.
Raymond wouldn't be missed. |

Kulemin provides a lot more than Raymond does when he isnt putting up points.
Bolland, too.
Both are better for playoffs than Raymond. - jbold
That wasn't Aaron's point. He's focused on next year. |

And I'd resign both Kulemin and Bolland and get rid of Raymond. In a heart beat.
You win with players like Kulemin and Bolland. not soft 40 point wingers who go on extreme cold streaks while playing top 6 minutes and PP time.
Hurry up and catch up dammit! This is page 12! |

Just being announced right now
13B deal with South Arabia
February 14, 2014 - London, Ontario - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, and Danny Deep, Vice President, General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada, announced today a historic multi-billion dollar contract win for vehicles and associated equipment, training and support services.
The announcement was made in London, Ontario, where the light armoured vehicles will be designed and manufactured and which will become the epicentre of a cross-Canada supply chain directly benefiting more than 500 local Canadian firms.
This 14-year contract will create and sustain more than 3,000 jobs each year in Canada, with southern Ontario accounting for approximately 40 percent of the supply base.
Facilitated by the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC), the Government of Canada’s international government-to-government contracting organization, the contract is with Saudi Arabia, a priority market under the government’s new Global Markets Action Plan.

not the way rc wants to play it..... ie match tough gritty shutdown line. Raymond isn't that. - burn
He played 20 mins last game on the 3rd line.
I'd rather some real grit and a better 3rd line option but lets not throw the baby out with the bath water ......just for a future draft pick. |

we wouldn't miss him. He's soft and has next to no hockey sense. We have guys that take that role just fine. |

I think this discussion is kind of missing the point and going to the extremes on both ends.
Raymond will absolutely help the Leafs going forward this year, he's a very solid offensive talent. However, because of this he will likely price himself out of a possible re-signing as well. 20+ goals will get him 3m+ easy.
Since the Leafs Top 6 is pretty much set, he needs to be evaluated for his contributions on the third line. And this is where his weaknesses defensively and toughness-wise start to show. The offense is nice, but third liners need more.
When you add in his appealing salary and possible spot on some other teams second line, and hence what they'll pay at the deadline, versus what he will contribute (which is definitely something) the scales tip too far towards trading him IMO. |

i guess you dont remember orr being assigned to chara last year
you need toughness in the post season more than anything..
since you guys are so high on raymond maybe you should look at his 18P in 55GP over his career in the playoffs
good for 0.327PPG
CLUTCH - Dozzer
Thanks Dozzer, I totally had no idea. However, a better read of all my posts would suggest to the average reader that I'm really not that "high" on Raymond. My suggestion is that the Leafs really don't have the depth to toss him overboard right now. Bolland isn't guaranteed to find his game and the farm isn't littered with prospects ready to fulfill a playoff role ...let alone any role.
Smith, Holland, Leivo ....have any of them even played an NHL playoff game? If so how are their ppg? |

Always forget about Clarkson.
Guess he rounds out our top 6.
It means our bottom six is pretty much gone next year along with 2 D.
Ideally,
Bolland is resigned IF he gets back to form. If not, he walks in the offseason.
Kulemin walks, Raymond walks, and you offer a relatively cheap deal for McClement who is a good 4th line Centre/Pker
Move Holland to 3rd ling winger (or C if Bolland cannot play) D'Amigo has the skillset of a 3rd liner and you look for another 3rd liner for cheap on the open market.
4th line becomes Bodie - McClement - McLaren
Trade Reimer and sign a vet backup. Move Franson for more depth.
JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Holland - Bolland - D'Amigo
Bodie - McClement - McLaren
Phaneuf - Gunnar
Gardiner - Gleason
Rielly - Granberg

For the record I've been pretty vocal around here about keeping the face punchers. I've been reminding guys all year about the utility of Orr and McLaren.
All I'm saying is write out the lineup right now with depth players. Assume RC won't play both McLaren and Orr together in the playoffs (he didn't last year). Bolland hasn't skated a shift yet after suffering a terrible injury. Factor that all up and I'm just not ready to unload anybody for picks.
...well maybe Franson because I hate his face. |

so you're logic is to never put a prospect in the playoffs because they lack playoff experience.. yet they cant get playoff experience without being played in the playoffs?
thats a catch 22 if i ever heard one.
sometimes you just got to roll the dice. raymond is a soft winger who is playing ion the checking line.. its time to move him. |

ok ok ok i apologize for the grateful dead crack.. it wasnt intended to be taken personally.. so i am sorry.
i just dont like the idea.. of having mason raymond in a checking role for the leafs come the playoffs. i would much rather a kid who is good at checking and has been groomed for the role be put in there.
varying opinions is what we have here.. nothing more. |

I like this except for two things. Nonis needs to decide between either Holland or Bolland, unless he can get Bolland for 1 or 2 years only. Holland on the wing seems like a short-term solution that doesn't utilize his skill-set or help him develop.
And two, Rielly isn't leaving the second pair ever now, so it'd be Gardiner and Granberg. Only way the D will be different is if we get a new partner for Dion, wherein Gunner falls to the 3rd pairing with Gardiner. |
