Crosby is such a whiny little female dog. He went down like he was shot.

jeez, Doughty is so good.

Just a complete waste of time and money. Team is in a rebuild, sign an aging pitcher well past his prime. Guy is also a headcase.

They're not, but they'd love to be. They have too many big time contracts that have to expire first before they can start bringing in younger players to take over.

They aren't in a rebuild, they just have a roster full of shot old men. Throw another one Burnett on the fire.

Can someone explain why Maataa is leading the Finnish Olympic team in scoring, and has been a fixture on the blueline for the top team in the East.... While Laughton was invisible in the Junior tournament playing against 16 year old pimple faced punks, and can't crack the Flyers roster?

I guess the reason is the Flyers needed another center, and it takes forwards longer to develop than D-men.

So (frank)ing stupid. poop like this is why this franchise doesn't win Championships.

If JVR was still a Flyer, and Maataa was drafted instead of Laughton things would be so different. Being unable to get out of their own way is one of the biggest problems. Truly amazing.

im not going to disparage maatta in any way, as obviously im really glad it shook out that way and have high hopes for him. but you wont hear any negativity from me about laughton either. yeah you can argue maybe you should have went a different route based upon position, but laughton has done nothing but impress me from what ive seen.

Sure he's been impressive. But a young defenseman was clearly the Flyers greatest need. I'm not saying Laughton won't be a solid player, he probably will be, but Maataa is doing it at the NHL level already.

true. you guys have debated what you guys think the flyers philosophy is a lot. thinking its BPA over need based. that obviously comes with pros and cons. the pens do it too, just opposite. they only draft defenders really. it obviously hit with maatta so far, and hopefully it will with pouliot, but i remember there being quite a few nice forward prospects on the board when pouliot went

Jesus. We do not know what we have in Laughton, and neither does Pittsburgh really know what they have in Maatta.

Maatta has had a great rookie season so far, and a solid olympic showing. However, it is just way too early to say anything about how he is going to pan out. We have seen many young D start off hot, and then cool off.

As for Laughton, he hasn't even had the chance to sniff at the NHL yet! The depth we have at C has barred him from prematurely showing us what he can do at the top level. Hell, we have Vinny doing LW duties because our roster is so stacked on centers. Maatta got his chance (and mastered it) because of an insane amount of injuries on the Pens D.

yeah. i dont want to count chickens (myers is a perfect example), but im tremendously confident in maatta right now. that being said, i dont know why you would be so down on laughton. the dude has done nothing to show that he should be less than what he was projected upon being drafted. actually, hes shown not only those intangibles, but likely a good deal of skill that shows he may have a higher ceiling than anticipated. you can debate the position thing forever, but taken upon his own merit i think laughton looks pretty damn solid.
