Do we know who USA would play in quarterfinals yet? Winner of a specific game or is it depending on who wins Tuesdays games and seeding? |

Maata looking like a stud, but hey, why should we try to build a D from within until they are a sniff away from being an absolute joke.
All is well. - flyer_nutter
It sure does sting a bit when seeing Maata on their Olympic team, especially when Laughton is still playing junior hockey. But the 2012 draft could be really successful for the Flyers. Laughton, Stolarz, Ghost, Leier and Vasiliev (already playing in KHL) could all pan out in one way or another. |

Flyers have drafted 7 defenseman in the last two NHL amateur drafts. They used 7 out of their last 13 picks on defenseman. - MJL
Its nice to see them being so pro-active.
All we have to do is trust that scouting department and just wait for another homegrown d-man to contribute to the top 4. Who was the last one again? Shouldnt be too long now.

Seems to me the flyers have put drafting defense higher up the priorty list lately. 2 years isn't going to yield instant results, but I do like the direction. I hope they finally realized it's the best way to go for stud defensemen. Unless they like overpaying via trade. Even then you might not get them. |

no, the Flyers are the worst drafters ever and can never do anything right ever at all in history. Everything they do is the wrong decision. Everything. They're a joke. They do the same thing over and over and never learn. Especially finding undrafted rookies that play an instrumental role on the team.
This franchise is laughable. They'll never win. |

What is the alternative? And why can't any of those players develop into really good players. I choose to be optimistic, and like that they are bolstering the defense prospect base. Which also includes other promising player such as Mark Alt. But hopefully they can overcome the devastating consequences of not drafting Maata. I don't care how the Flyers build their defense, as long as they get it done. |

The last one what? The last defenseman picked in the first 3 rounds who panned out? Bourdon and Sbisa looked promising until they were hurt and traded, respectively. Bertilsson looked great in junior Sweden but never came over. Marshall, Bodrov, and Ratchuk were misses. Bartulish, we'll never know after he got hurt and subsequently bought out. Minus the Marshall/Bodrov/Ratchuk draft year, they've actually been fairly okay (especially since most of them were 3rd round or later) with their picks. With Alt/Morin/Hagg/Ghost, they have 4 legitimate top-4 prospects. Whether they pan out or not is one thing, but they're definitely a good start. |

I don't think they're the best thing since sliced bread.
That'd be Nutella.
I do, however, believe this is a good team with a bright future. So you're going to rag on me for being optimistic in the beginning of the season when they were playing poorly? Fine. But let's not ignore their top 5 record in the NHL since sometime around Thanksgiving. |

I believe I was bashed for suggesting Maata as a player I'd consider moving Couturier for. I stand by my statement. |

Hey, I would've loved for the Flyers to have drafted Maata, and have him in the lineup at this point. Real nice player. But I'm not going to adopt the narrative that the franchise is doomed because they haven't done so. And I don't know if it's result of emphasizing the position in the draft, or if it just worked out that way with the BPA approach. Holmgren has proven that he can build a quality defense, and I have faith that he can do it again.

Don't forget they suck because they didn't draft Shea Weber or PK Subban in the second rounds. Worst drafters ever.
Edit: They do sucks. |

Hey, Nashville, Montreal, and Chicago all knew exactly what they were getting when they drafted Weber, Subban, and Keith respectfully in the 2nd round.
