No question about it. - MJL
an example of you just never know. bring someone along slowly and things can happen. im not totally thrashing the flyers philosophy. but i do think just off of the limited sample size ive seen, im not overly impressed with morin to fix what ails them. not that he is a bust and cannot develop, but even should he develop into what should be his game, the team will still need to find a better puck mover or two. |

Hägg and/or Ghost will hopefully provide some puck movement. |

I'm not in a position to know one way or the other in regards to Morin. I trust the Flyers in that regard. And that I read the other day that an NHL scout thinks he'll be a monster #1 defenseman in the future, makes me smile. But watching the Olympics and seeing young defenseman such as Pietrangelo, Fowler, Doughty, etc, and the agility, skating and puck handling ability they have is awesome. The Flyers need an infusion of that on the backend.

Hey, I would've loved for the Flyers to have drafted Maata, and have him in the lineup at this point. Real nice player. But I'm not going to adopt the narrative that the franchise is doomed because they haven't done so. And I don't know if it's result of emphasizing the position in the draft, or if it just worked out that way with the BPA approach. Holmgren has proven that he can build a quality defense, and I have faith that he can do it again. - MJL
Flyers don't really have a history of drafting well on defense. They've acquired their Dmen through trades and big signings. |

Yep, and I don't care if they take that approach again, as long as they get it done.

yeah. i just got the impression from both what i have heard as well as the limited times i have gotten to watch film of him playing, he strikes me as a larger, slower guy. how well he will ultimately fill that role, who knows. |

I really hope the Flyers don't see Morin as a #1 defenseman. If you've watched him play, he has limited offensive ability. Defenseman who will develop into 35+ point players usually average around a point per game in Juniors.
Morin has the upside of a shutdown dman. A mix between Coburn and Luke Schenn because of his nastiness and skating ability.
If he ever develops offense, it will be a long time from now. |

We'll see. Although I'm not sure why you hope the Flyers don't see him as a #1. I think if they didn't feel that way about him, they wouldn't have drafted him in that spot.

I have been impressed with Morin as his season has gone on. He'll never be one to put up big points. But as far as being a presence defensively he's been pretty good.
3 things I've notice about Morin in games I've watched
- shouldn't ever use a slap shot, with his size it takes too much time
- temper, he has one....he'll need to get in under control
- at times he seems he's slow to rotate his hips when a player goes along the wall. that could be that he's doesn't want to guess and be too far out of position. |

Personally I see him as top 4, with upside of being in a to pair to a D with a more offensive side. |

He's actually quite mobile for a guy his size. He's still not ready for the NHL yet. He isn't comfortable in his body yet. The kid is 6'7. It will take time, but he may be a very good shutdown dman. I just don't see the team getting much offense from him. |

I meant it more as I hope they don't ask too much of him. I don't want them to get dismayed if he never develops much offense. |

i guess if we are going to throw in the qualifier of for his size then yeah ill buy it. im not alleging he is the next hal gill. but say someone like tyler myers, who isnt a fire hydrant, may be quick for his size, it still may be difficult for him to provide that push from the backend. coburn is pretty quick for his size, but is still relatively slow compared to the ilk of player i am referring to. |

He's capable of making a decent first pass out of the zone. I don't see him scoring many goals though. |

ill definitely buy that evaluation for sure. but then the issue still arises of acquiring that guy with a more offensive side to pair him with |

Morin has plenty of development a head of him. Skating is part of that, but it's clear they didn't draft him in hopes he'd be putting up 40 plus points from the back end.

He has a big shot. If he can work on his release, that could be a weapon for him. |

I agree. They will give him a look and if he impresses in camp, I would be ok with giving him the 10 game tryout.
He would need to play very well in order for me to keep him for the entire season. |

They do have Hagg & Ghost, will they turn out who knows. They'll for sure poke around in the trade market & if any hit free agency that's also any option.
It's not going to be a quick fix or at least as far as many hope. The cost to me will just open up more spots to fill on the roster. |

Morin's slapper is very slow developing. But his wrist shot is a damn good one. |

9 games if I am not mistaken.
I'd for sure keep him in camp as long as possible to gain as much knowledge as possible. |
