i guess if we are going to throw in the qualifier of for his size then yeah ill buy it. im not alleging he is the next hal gill. but say someone like tyler myers, who isnt a fire hydrant, may be quick for his size, it still may be difficult for him to provide that push from the backend. coburn is pretty quick for his size, but is still relatively slow compared to the ilk of player i am referring to.

Having average speed with his size and reach is a huge plus.

it can definitely make him a decent defender for sure. im not saying the dude is garbage by any means. he could be a homerun of a pick, and a very important piece of the puzzle going forward. but i still think a color of a different hue will ultimately have to be added, regardless of morin's development

They do have Hagg & Ghost, will they turn out who knows. They'll for sure poke around in the trade market & if any hit free agency that's also any option.

It's not going to be a quick fix or at least as far as many hope. The cost to me will just open up more spots to fill on the roster.

Watching Hagg play, makes me think he's very boom or bust. When he's playing well, everything looks effortless. When he's playing poorly, he looks disinterested.

Sounds like many players that age. I do wonder even though he's played in Europe the entire time if he just doesn't have the game for that surface & maybe it's better for the NHL size rinks.

Could be wrong.

Many of us were hoping for guys like Pulock or Morrissey or Zadorov.

He stands flat footed a lot. He's not really mobile. You may be right about rink size.

Outside of world juniors haven't watched Hagg. I mainly go off what I see mentioned about him.

Now focused on 3 over age players I think they should give a shot. They may or may not pan out but it also good boost the prospect depth.

As well as 2014 draft prospects.

We'll see. Although I'm not sure why you hope the Flyers don't see him as a #1. I think if they didn't feel that way about him, they wouldn't have drafted him in that spot.
- MJL

You can be a #1 shutdown top pair dman without having a whole lot of offense to your game.
For example:
Rod Langway
Kevin Lowe
Derian Hatcher (in his prime with Dallas)
Adam Foote

If Morin turns out as good as any of these guys, the Flyers made an excellent pick.

Great shot from the point. He was picked by the Isles which means he'll be a bust.

kind of wish he wouldve played with crosby and kunitz, and actually used on the powerplay at the point. but we both have our "oh its over with now" as respective fanbases haha. but a forward prospect sure would look nice on the farm instead of collective crickets

Anyone remember Chara circa 2000? He's turned into a 40-50 point defender. It might be a long shot for Morin but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of him developing into a Chara type player just yet.

9 games if I am not mistaken.

I'd for sure keep him in camp as long as possible to gain as much knowledge as possible.

- ob18

Its a shame he can't play in the AHL next season, I would love to have Terry Murray coach this kid

He's played well since being traded. Does he play on a line with Dal Colle or Laughton?

Hopefully he'll become more consistent as he matures. He has the skills and good hockey sense, everything else can be taught. Hagg's another guy who would benefit with a year of Terry Murray's coaching

They used to be on the same line, the last half dozen or so games Laughton has been used on a shut down line and those 2 have mainly played with Vancouver pick Cole Cassels

I'm not ruling it out. I'm saying its unlikely. I'm also saying it could be a long time before he displays offense. It took Chara a number of years in the NHL before he became a good offensive player.
