Weber will never be a Flyer. - Pixote Andolini
I think the odds are certainly against it. But I don't feel that the idea of trading for Weber is completely dead.

Anyone who watched Chara play at 18 would have said the same thing. - Feanor
Hes a rarity. For every player who eventually becomes Chara, there are a bunch of guys who become Grossmans, Coburns and Gills.
Also, Chara took a long time to establish an offensive game. It took a switch of teams as well. Hopefully, the Flyers have patience, but I can't see them waiting 6 years from now for his offense. |

Morin's offensive production is escalating. He currently has more points and goals then he had all of last Season. So his offensive game is improving. - MJL
I don't think he'll be a Grossmann on offense, but I don't think he's going to produce over 30 points. He has a decent wrist shot, a pretty bad slap shot and can make a decent first pass. He's not really a guy who can make stretch passes. He is a defensive defenseman right now on his junior team. He doesn't even play on the first PP unit. |

He's a long shot to be an elite defender. I won't say boom or bust, because a #11 overall pick becoming a top-4 defender is fine with me. However, he has increased his point production, and for a guy who doesn't play on the first PP unit, he does have 5 of his 7 goals on the PP which is tops for defensemen on his team. My real concern with him is his temper, and if that affects his ability to both stay cool when needed and to be coached well. If he becomes a #3/4 defenseman who can shut down opponents and chip in 20-25 points a season and be a major contributor on the PK, I'm okay with it. |

That's okay. From what I read he has a heavy shot, but just needs to get it off faster. If he develops into a monster defensively, that can put up around 30 points. Move the puck efficiently and make a good first pass, I'll take that. He may not have the ability to become a high minute all situations player, but Chara is one example of what can happen.

1st Round Picks Points Per Game in Juniors (Risto and Seth Jones omitted because of alternate league)
Josh Morrissey 1.24
Shea Theodore 1.10
Ryan Pulock 0.89
Nikita Zadorov 0.88
Darnell Nurse 0.80
Samuel Morin 0.60
Marco Mueller 0.40
I know Morin is much less polished than the rest, so he has more upside, but good offensive defenseman average around 1 point per game in juniors as a 19 year old. |

If Morin can be as good as Bryan Allen or young Komisarek, the Flyers would have to deem that pick a big success.
Almost every dman over 6'4 that's drafted gets the usual Chara/Pronger comparisons... from Aulie to Zadorov and everyone in between... yet there's still only one Chara and still only one Pronger. |

I would be happy with that too. I just hate hearing Panaccio tout him as the next Chris Pronger. He is not going to be. He's more of a combination between L. Schenn and Coburn. He's got size, good mobility for his size and a mean streak. |

If Morin turns out to be Bryan Allen, then it will be a bad pick with the #11 pick in the draft.

Im not saying he's going to be a bust. I just want people to temper their expectations for him. There are a lot of people who don't see value in defenseman unless they score over 40 points per season. Panaccio seems to be one of those people and he's setting this kid up for a lot of ridicule when he doesn't produce much offense. |

Obviously, you've never watched B.Allen in his prime, then... big, mean, mobile, huge shot, decent first pass, could play all situations. |

At the same time it needs to be realized that he might wind up as a point producer at some point. Can't eliminate the possibility just as much as unrealistic expectations shouldn't be set.

There are always exceptions. I'm just going by the percentages. There is always a chance he develops into a stud #1, but I would say its highly unlikely at this point. |

If Morin exceeds 17 points in a season only once in his career, I will be upset a bit. |

I agree, it's a bit of a long shot. And I was really hoping for Pulock. But we have Morin, and as long as we do, I will be very cautiously optimistic. I hope he becomes "The Next Pronger" but as long as he is the kind of player we mentioned, I am okay with that. |

My biggest fear is that the fans and organization expect this guy to anchor our blue line in 3-5 years. Then, when he doesn't, they trade him and his offense begins to blossom with another team. Similar to the way Chara's did. |

Yes, I have watched Bryan Allen in his prime. He's been a solid player. But if that's all that Morin turns out to be, that will be a disappointment.

Not at all. But for a guy chosen #11 overall in a VERY deep crop of defensemen, I'd hope that he brings more than just being big and mean. |

My hope is that he gets at least 1 full year of AHL hockey in him. Hopefully that will temper the expectations or make them grow accordingly. I find the QMJHL and even the OHL to be a bit misleading, although the WHL (coughPulockcough) seems to be a good indicator. |

It would be disappointing in that sense. That draft could end up being one of the best ever. If the Flyers walk away with Bryan Allen when they could have had some stud players, it will be very disappointing. |
