Might as well ask them to retire and walk away from their new contracts, you would have a better chance of that then trading one of them. |

If the twins go, then everyone must go. Start the rebuild, of the players on the team now, keep Tanev and Lack and send everyone else packing for picks and prospects. |

Keep Richardson as well (good 4th liner), re-sign Santorelli to a cheap 2-3 year deal while we can. |

Lottery pick. Every team that doesn't make the playoffs has the potential to move up because of the draft lottery. If we finish just ahead of the Islanders, and the lottery goes out way, we could picking quite high in the draft.
Of course, we all know that Bettman won't let that happen, so we'll probably end up picking 15th. - Chest Rockwell
The only way we could get into the top 5 would be to win the lottery. The odds are actually better that someone below us would win the lottery and we would actually drop a position. |

Kassian yes, Stanton meh, we could probably get a pick for him, not bad for a waiver pick up. |

Finishing 25th gives us a 6.2% chance of winning the lottery and picking no.1. There is a better chance of moving up in the draft than dropping down. |

Apparently, and take it for what it's worth considering the source, Doug Maclean was on the 1040 afternoon show yesterday saying that MG has potential deals working that could shock a lot of people. I doubt MG pulls the trigger on something like that; he doesn't have the stones to do something like that. Unless super fan FA is preaching tank nation like the rest of us!
It is nice to speculate what Edler and Kesler could land us
Edit: Latvia up 2-0 on Switzerland already. The Swiss have score 2 goals all tournament. - Chest Rockwell
It has nothing to do with Gillis' stones. People slam Gillis for not making a big trade the past few years. Not many GMs have been able to successfully pull off a big trade recently. And by successfully, I mean one that helped their team, not that big trades haven't happened. I'd rather he didn't make a trade then made one that was a huge risk and screwed the team for years to come. |

There is a 17% chance that one of the teams who finish 17 - 24 win the lottery. So it's almost three times as likely that we drop down. |

Alls that the islanders have to do is play .500 hockey. I believe we can lose every game from here on out (not even trying to lose) - I-own_da-Northwest
Ha! But can the Islanders play .500 hockey for the rest of the season??? |

Ah yes, the Canucks should trade away top-6 forwards because of a bad season.
They have so many as it is...

Are we fighting today?
I wish just kidding when I asked for Chris Stewart in exchange for Steve Downie.
PS. As per the NHL:
The NHL announced Monday that all 14 teams that miss the playoffs, or the teams that hold the rights to the top 14 picks, will be eligible to win the No. 1 draft pick when the lottery is held.
Under the previous system, the five teams with the fewest points had the opportunity to win the top selection since no team could move up more than four spots....
...The draft lottery will be weighted with the teams having the fewest points in the regular season having the best chance of winning. The team with the fewest points will have a 25 per cent chance of winning. The non-playoff team with the most points will have a 0.5 per cent chance of winning.
While the top pick can now go to any of the 14 non-playoff clubs, or the team owning the rights to the first pick of a non-playoff club, the odds of winning the lottery are unchanged from previous years.
No club will move down more than one position as a result of the lottery. The remaining first-round drafting positions are determined by the Stanley Cup playoffs.
So, there is a chance we could move up.

Ha! No, we aren't fighting! But as I stated in the post you responded to, the only way we can move up is by winning the lottery. If we don't win the lottery we can remain in the same spot or move down. |

Yes, but what are Gillis' options to improve this team?
Free agents? Drafting?
Trading is still the quickest way to improve and Gillis has done very little to take a back-to-back President Trophy team and supplement the core to put them over the top.
Now we are looking at a rebuild because of his ineptitude. |
