I guess Ek was wrong about the Swiss going all the way

JJ had the Slovaks as his sleeper pick.
Goes to show you we come here for the banter, not the hockey opinion's of bloggers.

The last thing Team Canada has had to worry about so far is their D. It's been fantastic.

Agree with the defense in general, but not the pp. Why would you dress Hammuis over Subban anyway?

Subban is a liability, Hamhuis isn't. Hamhuis might not win you the game, but he won't lose you it.

Well, they did it in the round robin to get Hamhuis a little ice time in case they need him in the medal round. If they dress Hamhuis in the medal round over Subban it's because he makes way less mistakes and that's more important to them than having another D-man who can push offense.

We didn't really have enough PPs in the round robin to criticize the D.

Subban is not a liability, he is actually very underrated in his own zone. +, if you play him just for the pp, what's the risk here?

Anyway, main problem has been the group of forwards, not Price or the defense.

They should let CBC run the show over there, they'd be showing the Americans in prime time because it has two Leaf players on it.
- LeftCoaster

Noon EST is prime time for games being played in that time zone.

correct, but Price could be the problem... he hasn't been tested yet. Luongo has been tested.

Hey Carol,

No mention of Canucks prospect Ronalds Kenins' solid effort for Latvia in the elimination of the Swiss today

Didn't score, but he was great on the forecheck, threw some good hits, and played most of the game in the offensive zone.

Could end up being a solid pickup.

Maybe so, but the IOC and the IIHF should care if they want the NHL to send players to Korea.
- Chest Rockwell

How does that have any effect on if the nhl players go or not. In that line of thinking they should play games in the middle of the night so that they are prime time for us. The Olympic are a world wide event and Canada and the states are but a fraction of the overall populous. They probably separate so they can have Russia and Canada play opposite times

You would think the two different styles of play they have would make for great chemistry.

He wasn't kidding. And he's right, in general. He does take chances, no doubt, though far less than he used to. He creates an awful lot of offense, which is something this team appears to need. So while he may make some mistakes, he also has huge upside.

He's right. To a point. Price hasn't played Olympic hockey, has he? He has played World Juniors, which is pressure-filled of course. But it's really no comparison.

I think Mike Johnson was saying the same thing last night- if you were going to dress one or the other, you'd dress Hamhuis. And then there is that Babcock quote about neither d will be seeing any minutes.

If I had my choice, I would be going with Subban as Team Canada hasn't had any real defensive issues, maybe that would change with Subban seeing more minutes, but they have scoring issues and Subban can provide more offense than Hamhuis, maybe stick him on the pp.

However the scoring issue is more of a forwards concern as the defense has been contributing with goals and moving the puck well- especially Doughty. I want to see St.Louis playing.
