Gotta give them credit -- you can't beat them playing like the U.S did -- being fast isn't enough - AllInForFlyers
Yeah, not enough sustained possession, and hell of a lot of trouble getting out of their own zone -- too many passengers like Brown, Callahan and Orpik, not enough drivers. |

Kind of a random question, but does anyone know where you can buy a Timonen Team Finland jersey? Figured this would be a good place to ask and maybe this question has already been covered, my apologies if it has. - five4fighting10

Exactly -- but that's why I'm riding guys like JVR and Kane so hard.
Dustin Brown's an '03 -- this isn't his tournament, anymore. Four years ago was. Orpik's ancient, Callahan's a nice player, but ultimately, a complementary one.
Look who scored for Canada today: Jamie Benn. An '07. This was his tournament, the '06s-'08s.
The U.S. has the top two picks from the '07 draft on their team...both forwards...and got shut out.
It's not entirely their fault. I'm not saying it is. But at some point, yeah, JVR and Kane, you need to get the job done. We're all sorry that it's that way, but yeah, it is that way.

So you're saying they lost because Kane and JVR couldn't score? Thats very narrow sighted. |

No, I'm saying they lost because at some point, somebody has to score, and it's unfair to expect guys like Dustin Brown and Ryan Callahan to be difference-makers against six of the best defensemen in the world.
Michael Jordan had to score. Kobe Bryant had to score. Kevin Durant had to score.
At some point, your best players have to score. And when they don't, and you get shut out, then it's not narrow-sighted to say "Hey, expecting a declining Dustin Brown to score isn't as realistic as expecting Patrick Kane to pop a goal."

Price's shutout reminded me of the Leighton shutouts in the playoffs against the Habs. Everything from the outside. The Team USA passing was awful, and no one paid the price to get to the net.
The Canadian defense core is rock solid. And with one of Toews, Getzlaf, and Bergeron on the ice about 85% of the time it's tough to generate offense. |

I guarantee you Brian Burke's not sitting there saying "Golly gee, it's totally fine that Patrick Kane and JVR didn't score tonight."

i think it's tough when you lose 1-0. on one hand you can think "if we scored just 1 goal....." but you just have to say it was one of those games. canada played a great defensive game; puck support from the forwards was the best i've seen |

Its a team game. I don't think JVR or Kane gave a poor effort. I thought the US played passively overall. Canada, also, played their best game of the tournament.
Everyone knew that if Canada played a good game, they'd be tough for anyone to beat.
I don't really understand what you're arguing about. Did you think Callahan and Brown should have been left at home for Bobby Ryan and Keith Yandle? Did you think Kane and JVR didn't play hard? |

In close tight checking games, the team that has the better blueline and can generate some offense from the backend usually has the advantage. Today was no different as Canada's lone goal can off a deflected point shot. Canada had the much better defensemen.
The US future is bright though. In the last few drafts the US has produced better defensemen. It's still early but since the 2010 draft for the US: Fowler, Faulk, ,Merrill, Trouba and Jones versus Gudbransen, Pysyk, Gormley, Hamilton, and Reilly. Sweden has also done a great job too. with OEL, Hedman, Brodin, and Lindholm since 2009. In fact you have to go all the way back to 2008 to find a draft where the Canadians have produced the best defenseman. Canada has Ekblad coming in 2014 but the United States counters with Hanifin, for whom some have said is better than Jones, and Werenski in 2015. Rasmus Anderson in 2015 is suppose to be the next great Swedish defense prospect also.
Canada will always have the better forwards and more of them. But if tournaments are won from the goal out, the US could get over the hump if not by 2018 but definitely by 2022. |

Did the Swedish team ever answer why OEL was benched? |
