The finns to me, really are a joy to watch. Strong goaltending, class and all heart. May not be the biggest team, but they work hard every shift.

They have won the most medals in hockey since NHL players were invited to play.

The Gold has been elusive for them though

I have a feeling we won't see NHLers in the olympics anymore.
- PhillySportsGuy

Will be interesting to see what the players do with that. Don't be surprised to see a few "stars" leave to play. If the NHL cannot plan for a few week break, and having 4 years to do so they are laughable.

Injuries are a concern sure, but I would say its more likely a player gets hurt in the NHL than in IIHF hockey. Hurts the owners chance at making money though, we couldn't have that now could we.

That certainly could be the case. But I'm not exactly wanting to get drilled in World Cups, either, and those are coming.
- AllInForFlyers

Does anyone know if the world cups will coincide during the same year as the winter olympics? Obviously, they would be during the summer, but will we have to wait 4 years or will they put something together sooner?

No it'll be every two years after. International hockey ever couple of years if they keep going to the Olympics.

Its weird because you also have the World Championships every year, that generally feature weaker players, or guys from teams that have not made the playoffs/out first round.

I really don't see what the issue is with keeping things as they are, other than losing out on $. Injuries happen more often in the NHL than this Olympic tournament.

I don't think any player is going to leave to play in the olympics. I know you're against the NHL denying players going to the Olympics. I just think a world cup would be better. It can be more inclusive with more games. It can really spread the sport.

Parise just said they didn't show up yesterday, and when Finland scored the first goal today they "shut it down". WOW. Pretty strong comments.

A World Cup would be the center of the hockey universe for that period of time. People in NA don't really pay much attention to the World Championships.

I just feel a World Cup would help spread the sport.

Look, we all know the reason. It comes down to money, which is why I am against it. Too much of that in this world today.

I could see the Russian crew skipping to go, few of the other Euro's. I just really dread the idea of this World Cup or whatever. The Olympics have far too much advertising as it is, can you imagine what it would be like if this proposed event became reality? Ugh.

Things really snowballed. They had so many chances and couldn't score then, in the blink of an eye, they were down 2-0. Kane was really good, but just couldn't finish. He got frustrated and started taking penalties in the third. That was all she wrote.

World Cup '96 was pretty damn awesome, though -- Keith Tkachuk, Tony Amonte and those boys put in some freaking work

I do think it was kind of foolish to leave Yandle off the team for a guy like Faulk. The stars didn't make enough of an impact though. Who other than Kessel showed up to score goals?

Losing yesterday is no crime, Canada has a better team, not showing up today was a disgrace. And since all the players are pro's, unprofessional.

Which in the owner's eyes, go hand in hand. To me if things aren't broke. Why fix it. I'd just leave it the way things are. Ahhh well, it wont be us having a say anyway, the big boys in suits will. I just have seen to much greed in this league lately. With the two lock-outs and now this threat of pulling out of Olympic competition.

Bit of a joke if you ask me, but just a nutter's thoughts.

It was dumb to leave both Yandle and Ryan. You don't leave talents like that at home. I understand not playing them big minutes for fear of defense, but they could have kept them as a 7th dman and 13th forward. The USA defenseman had trouble in the last two games getting shots through from the point. Yandle would have helped. I doubt either would have made enough of a difference to win either game.

Didn't play well yesterday, Quick held them in there. I didn't expect them to beat Canada yesterday. I don't think there is any shame losing to the better team. Not showing up for the game today when an Olympic medal was on the line is pretty unbelievable.

I agree. I didn't like the way they played yesterday though. I really thought they would beat Canada. They only lost 1-0 but were totally outplayed.
