This has to end. Nothing to do with you Jan, blog was very good. But none of the names mentioned other than Bobby Ryan thrill me. Plus no way in hell they would trade him for an unsigned Callahan. It just has to end, it's time. - tomburton99
Unsure there will be anyone happier than me for March 5 to pass so I can focus on hockey and not trade rumors and speculation. |

martin st louis really makes no sense, at all
he is carrying the offensive load while stamkos is out, he is their captain, he is under contract beyond this year, he will be mentoring drouin
yzerman is not a dumb GM either, especially with trades
shipping out his current best forward for a rental with high demands is mind numbing to comprehend
this would make sense if Tampa was out of the playoff picture, but they are very much in the forefront, without stamkos - FourFeathers773
The Rangers are run by Dolan and Sather, St. Louis makes perfect sense |

Have absolute no interest in Hemsky, haven't had it when he mentioned a while ago and that hasn't changed now. Maybe I will be wrong but never been a big fan. - airjan23
just was joking about Hemsky, but wonder if the caps are in play? Laich? |

Well, if you believe Boomer knows the guy, and is providing us clues, neither of those guys fit. There are only really few who do given Boomer's clues. - Pete V
i think ruutu fits the bill outside of the contract length. |

i think rangers fans would instantly love st. louis, and since boomer said the initial reaction will be negative from rangers fans, i don't think it's st. louis.
stamkos is coming back soon and tampa is still in a good playoff position. i don't see them moving st. louis. |

I have sinking feeling it could be Alfredsson. |

I'd love him but that's on the selfish side, would it be a better for the future, noting St. Louis' age probably not |

Yeah, I guess he could arguably be on that list. But, it seems like a stretch to say he would be an immediate first liner and a guy that has big respect.
Honestly, kind of sounds like Alfy to me, but he just moved to Detroit, has a no trade clause, and would he really want to pick up and move his family again.
I'm kind of at a lost here, because there are only a few guys that really fit Boomer's clues. |

It would be rental for rental, but to me, little upside in getting Alfredsson, as much as I like him. Would rather keep Callahan and try to re-sign him. |

When it comes to free agents Sather is brain dead but when it comes to trades he been more than on the money with getting equal or better value, I trust it's not Alfie, nothing against him but Cally easily brings back more than a 40+ UFA |

So don't want Ruutu, injury prone, don't view him as a real top-six forward anymore. Plus two more years after this one at $4.75 mil per, no thanks. |

I would rather just keep Callahan and let him walk at the end of the season then make that trade. Callahan would give this team a better chance come playoff time. |

It would be a disaster if its Alfie, Slats would be just getting rid of Callahan. |

Let's break this down:
Boomer said its a guy who played in Sochi.
A forward from the Eastern Conference.
It's not Boston, Toronto, Penguins, Caps, Sens, or Devils.
It's not a guy signed long-term.
And its not Moulson, Anisimov, Dubinsky, Clarkson, Neil, Simmonds, Marchand, Vanek, Gaborik, Kane, Iginla, Erat, Kadri, or Subban.
* * *
If you take the above, there are only a few guys that still even arguably fit the bill, using three years as the outer length of the contract term:
Alfredsson
Tatar
St. Louis
Plekanec
Grabner
Fleischmann
Kopecky
Vorachek
If you then take his the guy is an immediate first liner clue, that probably eliminates Grabner, Kopeck, and probably Fleishmann and Tatar.
So, unless I'm missing someone, it seems like Boomer is talking about:
Alfredsson
St. Louis
Plekanec
Voracheck
Maybe Tatar or Fleischman
The huge respect factor could arguably bring it down to just Alfredsson and St. Louis. - Pete V
But none of those guys are hated with the exception of vorachek and that's just because he's a flyer.

i think ruutu is a well respected player and while he's not a 1st line guy, he's a 2nd liner. ruutu is a tough SOB which is why i think he earns the respect factor.
as for alfy...i really hope not. i have zero respect for him ever since he shot the puck at niedermayer years ago. well, i guess he definitely fits the "initial negative reaction" criteria |

Alfie loves playing for detroit too much. Not sure he waives his ntc, also not sure what detroit would see in ditching alfie for cally
Det needs alfies goal scoring much more than they need callys grit |

Agreed, St. Louis lives in Greenwich, CT- where is wife is from. I live in Weston, about 20 minutes up the coast. My son actually goes to school with Marty St. L's nephew so I will be trying to get info out of an 8 year old tomorrow.
But Boomer is very involved with the Ranger alumni as well as with local players that do charity events in the summer- that would include St Loius, Patches and, to a much lesser extent Bobby Ryan (who I don't see as a possibility.) |

I'm not sure why you think Alfie would be a downgrade at all from Callahan. The guy is still very good and a shoe in hall of Famer |

In looking back, I don't think he said hated, I think he said that Rangers fans wouldn't be happy with it. If he said hated, there maybe nobody that fits all the criteria he's laid out.
He also said that it would make the Rangers look like both a buyer and a seller, so what does that do to the list.
And by the way, I think I got everyone, but not sure, so if you guys can think of anyone else, chime in. Danger added Ruutu as a possibility, but I think he a stretch (although not completely outside) the criteria.

if we're gonna move cally for a rental, i'd rather just keep him. i'm on board with moving cally for young assets that will be around for a while. not a 40+ year old rental. keep cally of alfie every day of the week. |

- Pete V Yeah he probably retires after this year or the next anyhow ,dont see that as being a main component in a trade involving a younger better at this stage player in Cally
