We could always sign Schneider when he leaves NJ next season
- cranford93

I am going to find the Schneider situation with the Devils really amusing. I think he has a all kinds of negotiating leverage, and will get paid a ton of money, because Lou isn't going to want to have egg on his face for trading a Top 10 pick for him, only to lose him two years later (especially the summer after forfeiting another first round pick).

Terrible trade for the devils. It amuses me how everyone praised Lou for it.

Well trading for Schneider wasn't the problem. Brodeur's starter days are over. So SChneider was a need. The problem was keeping the 29th overall pick in 2012.

The trade was actually a good trade, if it worked like it was supposed to. I understand that MB30 wants to keep playing but the kid was traded for as his replacement. He should have been the starter this season and got at least 50 starts. The bottleneck to his trade is MB30 not ready to call it quits when he should.

I'd be happy with that return. Rangers have start scouting goalies, soon too. He turns 32 next year and Talbot will be 27. Gotta get a goalie soon.
- tomburton99

with hank signing a fresh 8 year contract, i think we have a few years before that really becomes a priority over scoring and defensive help.

in terms of value, that trade was great. but yea, it wasn't the smartest considering he's going to be a UFA in 2 years and the devils don't have the brightest future ahead of them which doesn't give him much incentive to stay.

Time to speculate like everyone else with the reminder that Boomer is also a huge Ranger fan. Buffalo tampered by leaking they will pay whatever Callahan asks for, as a UFA. So Boomer has now countered that damaging blow by insisting a deal in principle has been reached, with the out that there are other considerations still undecided. Like a provisional pick. Sather now has a couple of days to let other teams decide if they want to up their offer or withdraw. EK claims there are renewed whispers about Sather and Edmonton talks for example. I do believe that there is truth in what Boomer says about the talks with Tampa but it does conveniently put Sather in a stronger position until the freeze expires, to find out what real interest and value is out there. Stevie Y is hampered by the players approval of trade destination. Looks like Cally is going. Just a matter of where and for what.

Now that Esiason's big story was simply that, a story, let's revisit Callahan to Buffalo shall we?

I think that is his ultimate destination.

Well, let's wait and see.

Look at this from MacKenzie. Sure, he questions the rumor and whether it makes sense, but he's not real strong about it. Boomer clearly had some inside info on this one, even if it doesn't ultimately end up happening. He may have been too strong with his position though.

I think this more or less wishful thinking on Boomers part. As they say, and boy does it apply here sometimes. "A little knowledge is dangerous".

That saying is definetely true.

But, I'll say this, if this trade ultimately ends up happening, Boomer is going to be a rockstar.

Edit: Oldschool, do you read MacKenzie's current statement as being a bit of a slow back peddle? I see a little of that to be honest (i.e., I don't want to get upstaged by a former NFL QB, but I can't completely crap on this either).

So a lot of people believe msl would waive his nmc to come to ny? Interesting...it would take a significant package full of a pick and a good prospect in addition to cally tho.

Pretty sure a St. Louis for Cally trade with piss off both fan bases.

I guess that would depend on how strongly St. Louis plays the hand. Is he going to be a malcontent if they keep him in that room? Do they have other options? Do they just tell him you aren't going anywhere, so suck it up.

Putting aside whether St. Louis is handling the Olympic snub properly, his iniital exclusion from the team has clearly created some issues for Tampa and Stevie Y. Moreover, while its the Coaches responsibility to put the players on the ice that he believes gives him the best chance of winning, it couldn't have done wonders for St. Louis's pride playing 2 minutes a game (i.e., first I get snubbed, and then I get embarrased by having my butt stapled to the bench).

Would you be pissed off by that trade? I think it is better than the Rangers could ever hope to do for Callahan given his impending UFA status. If they are intent on trading him, I would love that trade.

I'd be happy with it, especially with Callahan's unwillingness to even negotiate.

Agreed. Let msl play out his final year next season, get his contract off the books, and then enter the summer of toews and patty kane with a lot of money to play with.

Ok let me rephrase and say: emotionally pissed. I also thought St. Louis was a FA this summer but he's not.

With that trade your head may like it, but your initial feeling will be upset.

Callahan's agent also has Vanek. It seems like he is going to take both of these guys to the open market, and try to hit the UFA jackpot, which I assuming he will.

I generally agree, but I think I emotionally re-signed myself to Callahan being traded about three weeks ago, so at this point, I would be really excited by the return (which I think is real good for the Rangers short-term).

Buzz: Darren Dreger on Ryan Callahan and Marty St. Louis
February 24th, 2014 4:33 pm
Ryan Callahan Broadway HatOn Team 1040 in Vancouver earlier today, Darren Dreger spoke about Ryan Callahan and the Marty St. Louis situation.

On the Marty St. Louis situation, Dreger said “I know the Rangers thought it was amusing, the speculation and rumor about St. Louis for Ryan Callahan. I can assure you that if that deal was ever proposed that the Rangers would make it instantly.”

On Ryan Callahan, Dreger said, “Ryan Callahan is on the trade block and that is not a news flash. We talked about that prior to the roster freeze and there were no contract talks that would lead me to believe that anything is going to change. Callahan is going to go into auction and you will have teams like Tampa Bay perhaps, perhaps the LA Kings kicking tires to see what the rate of return is going to be but we may not know what the rate of return is going to be until trade deadline day.”
