There are always good players all over the first round in any draft. I just don't think its worth it. He's one year younger than Luke Schenn and has regressed over the last few seasons.
Im not saying I want no part of him, but I won't give up a 1st or Laughton for him. He's simply not worth it. - PhillySportsGuy
I wouldn't trade Laughton for him, this year's first I would consider it. |

I like him, but he isn't my first choice. I'd prefer minor tweaks at the TDL, if any and then proceed to free agency and add a veteran like Boyle to provide a bridge to the Morins & Haggs. - Jsaquella
I agree. Kulikov is a guy you ask about, but you don't target. You don't want some other team giving up a 2nd rounder and realize you could have gotten him for very little. |

I'd agree. The risk is too high. But it's worth a shot if the price is right. |

I might just do it next season. Im saving to buy a house so I gave up some sports things in order to get my fiancé to give up some clothes shopping. A fair trade I guess. |

I'd be open to Boyle if we didn't have Streit. I don't want both in the lineup at the same time.

Yep no doubt the Flyers changed course radically. But they didn't trade Richards and Carter because they made some rash decision over that short period of time that they weren't good players anymore. That was the point. I need more then the GM is a dolt, or that Timonen wouldn't have gotten the same money elsewhere or just a "check" or that everybody knows how the JVR/Schenn deal has turned out, to continue this conversation. - MJL
And the devils advocate says.....Just because Holmgren paid Kimo 6 mil, does not mean he would have got it elsewhere....his play has not warranted it.....I had seen enough of Schenn in Toronto to realize he may not reach the potential......I hoped I was wrong when Philly brought him in....so far I see the same player that was in Toronto....Dolt ...maybe strong, as I'm sure he's a swell guy.....I don't like the moves I have outlined ..... |

The entire defense was put together by Homer through trades or FA. The team is currently in the playoffs. Someone must be playing well on defense otherwise this team would be terrible. |

You use more dots than I do
I don't think Schenn has been bad. He was monster last year, and he's been coming around this year as of late. You need to remember that Fat Schenn isn't going to put up points. His job is defense. As long as he just makes a crisp first pass and doesn't panic with the puck, he's fine.
JVR in Toronto is the same player he was here. He's just getting more playing time. Don't get too excited about him yet.
And don't give up on Luke. Kid's like 24. He's still got a good 3 seasons before we can look at him and judge his "bustness" or lack thereof. |

It hasn't been determined yet that the price was a mistake. If he turns out long term to be just a 5-6 defenseman, then it will be a bad deal. But that is not yet known. - MJL
And essentially this is where we differ....I really don't see him getting better...I think he is what we have seen.

A 1 year deal to Timonen is way down on the list of mistakes that have been made the last 3 years. Timonen is still probably the Flyers best dman. This will be his last year with the Flyers. I think trading him makes sense. This isn't a Cup contender, might as well get an asset for him. Would like to see him go to a contender and make a Cup run. He's earned that.
I shutter to think about a defense core where Coburn is the anchor. That's scary. |

Timonen would have gotten the same money elsewhere for one year. Quality defenseman are at a premium. That's why the Flyers gave him 6M for one year. That was the market.
Luke Schenn may not reach his potential. He has been inconsistent. Last year, he was one of the few bright spots on the team. Or were those games discounted and thrown away? |

Well historically, defenseman are not done developing as players at 24. I think he has a chance to get better. We'll see what happens.
How about Oliver Lauridsen? Do you think he has a chance at getting better and becoming an NHL defenseman some day? |

Your right quality d are at a premium ....but we are talking about timo.....the Timo of 2013-2014 is not a 6 million dollar d man.....as far as Schenn , I thought he had his moments ....but he showed the same signs in TO before games that made coaches cringe. |

With the market the way it is for defenseman, Timonen is a player who can command 6M. If the Flyers didn't give it to him, some other team would've for one year. I'll ask again, what would the Flyers defense look like this Season without him? And who would they have gotten to replace him? This is the 3rd time I've asked and I still haven't read an answer.
I agree that Luke Schenn is showing the same inconsistency here that he showed in Toronto. And that is concerning. Development of a young defenseman is rarely linear. But he is still relatively young at 24 for a defenseman. |

That is true.....others are what they are at that age, with Schenn it might be is that this is his 6 th year in the league with no real marked improvement.....Lauridsen ?..... I liked some of his games last year ....haven't seen him at all this year....hard to say what he is.....I feel more comfortable judging Schenn....bigger sample size. |
