Just wait until he manhandles Malkin - PhillySportsGuy
his best chance of containing malkin will be to just goad him a little until he forgets the object of the game isnt to slash the back of schenns legs but is to blow by him like he so easily can.
come to think of it, yeah. he might get the better of him |

With the market the way it is for defenseman, Timonen is a player who can command 6M. If the Flyers didn't give it to him, some other team would've for one year. I'll ask again, what would the Flyers defense look like this Season without him? And who would they have gotten to replace him? This is the 3rd time I've asked and I still haven't read an answer.
I agree that Luke Schenn is showing the same inconsistency here that he showed in Toronto. And that is concerning. Development of a young defenseman is rarely linear. But he is still relatively young at 24 for a defenseman. - MJL
Sorry thought I answered....sadly he's been the best guy on most night yikes.......Timo that is .....still think 6 mill is more of a golden hand shake then a true indicator of what he brings.

Im asking you. How much would you have offered Kimmo? - PhillySportsGuy
even if the kimmo deal was a little high, its relatively insignificant considering it was only a one year deal. it really doesnt appear to have hamstrung the team in any way. |

There are always good players all over the first round in any draft. I just don't think its worth it. He's one year younger than Luke Schenn and has regressed over the last few seasons.
Im not saying I want no part of him, but I won't give up a 1st or Laughton for him. He's simply not worth it. - PhillySportsGuy
also the Flyers have a pretty decent record with mid to late first round picks |

That is true.....others are what they are at that age, with Schenn it might be is that this is his 6 th year in the league with no real marked improvement.....Lauridsen ?..... I liked some of his games last year ....haven't seen him at all this year....hard to say what he is.....I feel more comfortable judging Schenn....bigger sample size. - landros 2
I understand, I haven't seen much of Lauridsen either. But why doesn't he have a chance to get better and make the NHL? Is he too old?

The inconsistencies Schenn is still displaying at this stage are concerning. The aspect that takes a while for dmen to develop is generally on the offensive side of the puck. Schenn has very little offense to his game, and that isn't going to improve.
Schenn is a physical, stay at home dman. That is a fairly simple game. I'm in the camp that believes Schenn is what he is. Maybe I'll be wrong. Certainly wouldn't be the first time. |

Exactly. Plus the guys has been a warrior for this team. Even if they gave him a little extra (which they didn't imo) it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. |

I don't agree that offense is the only aspect that takes a while for defenseman to develop. That is equally true for the defensive side of the puck. And with Schenn being a defensive defenseman, who is never likely going to develop a significant offensive game in the NHL. Saying that means that a player of his skill set would never develop over the course of time like most defenseman. Playing defense in the NHL is never a fairly simple game. Just not the case. It's a very hard position to play.

Scary but true....again doesn't mean that he is a 6 million dollar d man.....that's how below average the d is!!!!! When Today's Timo is "TheGuy" you know this team has to address the d.......or As I said 7 hours ago, is this teams biggest issue. |

That, and if JVR becomes a consistent 30 goal scoring power forward, it's going to be tough to swallow the return being a third pairing defenseman. |

More so then me...sure.....as much as Luke
Schenn...no.....so I'm saying there's a chance, but it's real shot in the dark.

So then if the defense would be markedly worse without Timonen. And 6M for one year is what it cost to re-sign Timonen. Then how was it a bad deal by a dolt of a GM? How did that move make the so called laundry list of bad moves by a dolt GM?
No one has argued that the defense doesn't need to be improved going forward. Signing Timonen to a one year deal for 6M isn't going to prevent that.

Had me worried there for a bit. Glad we straightened that out. If there's a chance for Lauridsen to improve, then there's a chance for Luke Schenn.

There isn't one Flyers fan that wouldn't want to hit the reset button on that trade.
And not one Leafs fan that wouldn't make the trade 8 days a week.
That says everything you need to know in a nutshell.
I wasn't opposed to trading JVR, his inconsistency was frustrating, but the timing made very little sense to me. Why trade him off his worst season? |
