will the flyers, if they stand pat, win the stanley cup?
- Flyers4Life88

Probably not. But I also don't think there will be a trade available at the deadline that will substantially increase those odds.

True. Imagine if Cal Heeter was Norwegian and had a game like that against Canada or Sweden. Even though it's one game Flyers fans would be walking around like Vince McMahon.

Gotcha. So he kinda pulled that game against Canada out of his ass. He was unbelievable.
- PLindbergh31

Yeah, goalies are funny like that... really not much separating fringe guys and NHL starters... the likes of Leighton and Gudlevskis can make NHL shooters look silly on any given day, but they'd be hard-pressed to keep that kind of thing going for long.

yeah, they need to get rid of this so called "cap"
- Flyers4Life88

A very high luxury tax would be better, for sure. Set it at $65mm, and fine teams at 100% if they go over. Think Snider gives a crap about a luxury tax, even if he's paying a dollar for every dollar he goes over?

But right now, the cap is artificially lowered, and it's forcing teams to be prudent. Anaheim is the best team with significant room (about $8mm) they'll be interesting to watch

I think its couturier that frustrates him though. For whatever reason, Malkin hates him. Couturier not a poop talked either.
- PhillySportsGuy

nope. hes not even scummy in the slightest. hes just crafty as hell defensively with incredible instincts. and the fact that malkin cant just whiz by him infuriates him. like i said, he becomes a little child. i have no problem admitting it because its exactly what happens.

say what you want about the glove incident, but when crosby gets frustrated he is usually better. malkin either finds another level or totally takes himself out of it by playing games. i wish he didnt. him at that motivated level against coots would be a classic on ice.

Stellar.

Do you think a greater % of 68 year old men have more money than McMahon, or bench more weight? Just curious.

i dont think the pens do either. and im not sure there is a move out there to be made that is worth it to increase the odds. i realize anything can happen, but the way things stand, the conference is still bostons to lose.

its funny, because i genuinely think the pens have a fighters chance against anyone from the west. i just dont think theyll make it there.

Even with minor tweaks, it's unlikely.

I don't think they can move the puck fast enough against good, quick teams that can forecheck them hard and skate well enough to avoid getting burned. Teams like Anaheim, Chicago and Boston would eat them up with an hard forecheck and limit their ability to do anything. They might win a game or two, but not a series.

I do think that even if they stand pat they could steal a round.

You know Vince has had to have dabbled in advanced science a bit to look like that.

They just don't match up well with the Bruins. The Leafs and Habs have given Boston trouble though. There is a chance they could be knocked off before the conference finals.

I just don't think they have the depth.

Next year, when the cap goes up....I think the Cup winner comes out of the East.

Depends on who they play. I like their chances more against the Pens than I do against the Rangers.

Crosby gets pissed and usually gets more focused. That 2012 series was really the first time I saw him get distracted from being mad. Malkin is a lot more easy to get off his game with shenanigans.

Paul Martin is a good dman. He's a better all around player than Yandle.

i think yandle should have went over orpik, especially because of how team USA was set up. they could have really used yandle on the PP.

however, the pens D isnt whats going to be their undoing. its not bad by any stretch of the imagination, at least when the team wants to be committed to it. Orpik is having a fairly rough year, but when he is healthy, martin is absolutely stellar.
