I was actually shocked when Gus was scratched in favor of Mez. I had thought Gus was playing fine. - MBFlyerfan
I wasn't. Mez has to play to be seriously looked at for trades. And he's had some really nice games. His olympic outing was pretty good as well. A few bone head penalties but he also saved games. I think Holmgren is going to get some offers for him. Question is how good they'll be...
My gut tells me Mez goes and we hang onto Gus. I'd expect to see him more in the line-up end of this season and depending on what happens in the off season will determine how much he plays next. Losing Kimo and Mez in the off season leaves the door wide open for him.
Of course I reserve the right to be wrong!

So was I. Gus has created scoring chances and has done a great job of jumping into the play. Its not like Mez is some defensive dynamo who brings the physical aspect Gus lacks.
To me, it seems like the organization is trying to keep both fresh or maybe they didn't want to put Mez at the 7th dmen, making it harder to move him.
I don't know. I'm still confused by some of the additions and subtractions to the overall lineup on a nightly basis.
I'd really like to get a better explanation on some of the reasons for why certain players are getting benched for others. - PhillySportsGuy
I thought maybe the Dolt was show casing Mez... regardless Gus was playing as well as any of the others. |

In a perfect world, this team would add 2 players to their top 4 for next season. Preferably, one with some mobility and skill.
My dream scenario would be a trade for Ehrhoff and a signing of Girardi. - PhillySportsGuy
I'd be very happy if they could get even one of those guys.
Niskenen too.
Any of those three would be a successful offseason I think.
The cost for Ehrhoff would be very high though. |

I feel like Ehrhoff would cost less than others. He's signed for another 7 years at a reasonable number. He's already 31. I feel like he gets unnoticed in Buffalo because that team is so bad.
Sabers have a lot of young D coming around the corner. They would definitely be open to dealing him. I would trade a 2014 first rounder for him. |

I'll preface this by saying that I like Gus, I think he should be in the lineup today and in the future.
But my gut, and years of being a Flyers fan, are telling me that Gus won't be around for long... maybe not even past this summer. I expect he'll get a better opportunity, and perhaps $, overseas, or ask to be traded... because the Flyers are going to be really active over the summer (and maybe TDL) and let's just say that they aren't usually too concerned with saving spots for guys already in the system, unless they're top prospects. |

Is showcasing Mez in order to get a 4th or 5th round pick worth it? |

I tend to agree with you. The fact that they keep benching him gives me the inclination that they just don't like him that much.
I've always liked him ever since Kimmo spoke glowingly about him. Kimmo isn't one to sugarcoat things, so it made me excited about him. |

I'd hope we'd get more than that! What did we trade for the corpse of Kubina? |

I have a feeling the only time Homer will move the 2014 first is at the draft. Seriously how many fewer fans do you think would go to the draft if the Flyers dont have a first round pick... |

I know. The day they announced the draft would be in Philly in 2014, we were all wondering if the Flyers would have a pick in the first round. |

Im not so sure. I think the most you can expect is a 3rd, but more likely a 4th or 5th. |

Then why trade him? They are still in a playoff race and if 1 d-man gets hurt, it will be nice ot have both Mez and Gus. And I think that is why both guys are getting time. |

"That brings us back to Hemsky. Edmonton has him practicing on the LW so he can get top 6 minutes, he's an expiring UFA, and he doesnt have that much value around the league despite leading the Czechs in scoring at the Olympics. If you start connecting the dots the Oilers are shopping Hemsky, are willing to retain salary, and would be comfortable taking picks for him.
Is that enough for Edmonton? They probably dont have a choice. "
Hemsky for Mez! |

Thats what I would do. Unless a team offers a 2nd or 3rd for Mez, I don't see why you would move him. |

The Dolt? You mean the guy who was 49-29-5-3 as head coach of the Phantoms, and has a Flyers team that started 1-7-1 at 30-23-6?
The guy who deserves to be in the Jack Adams conversation? That guy?
