I completely understand the point about Yzerman having to do what he believed was best for Team Canada, even if that meant leaving his own guy of the team. However, if I were a Lightning fan, I would be irate at my GM for creating a situation where one of the league's best players now wants out, because of a decision that had absolutely nothing to do with your own club.

I get the point that MSL should be the bigger person in all of this, but I also don't think that comports with reality. The fact of the matter is that these guys have pride, and when your own GM leaves you off the International team, not once but twice, that will undoubtedly create strife. And for what? MSL should have been on the team anyway, in most people's opinions.

If you are going to accept a role which places you in a conflict of interest with your own club, then you better be damn well sure that you are able to handle it without adversely effecting the club that pays you.

(frank) MSL- he is not bigger than the Olympics nor bigger than the Lightning... If anything last minute add on or not Yzerman did him a favor- the guy is 38 yrs old and was playing with the leagues best sniper so all you stats guysits not like MSL play won Canada the gold... IT was the TEAM...

If I'm pissed off with my boss I find another job. Seems to me St Louis feels betrayed by Yzerman. People saying he should "stay with his team mates" are overlooking something. Its a livelihood to NHL players and a game to us fans.

When your boss pisses you off, are your priorities your co-workers?

Lets face it, add MSL to any of the true SC contenders an they'd all be scary. Pitt/Bos/LA/CHI/STL and etc.

Marty can do whatever he wants. He's stuck with the Lightning through some god-aweful years. He doesn't owe them a damn thing.

Won't happen

No money, no room, and no desire (at least knowing Bowman).

St.Louis has a full NMC if I remember.

Going to be interesting for sure.

Like you said though, about the worst case scenario for Tampa.

Add - Is this still stemming from the Olympic "snub" fallout?

- ImThatGuy

I sincerely hope not. He's done a lot to earn his respect, it would be a shame if his image was tarnished by something like that.

...TB

How many of those teams are going to add a 50+ goal scorer at the deadline?

I'm not supporting MSL's position here. What I am saying is that Yzerman had to understand that his decision to leave him off the team (for the second time), had the potential to lead to this. And, because that decision had that potential, Yzerman placed himself in a position where he was harming the team that pays him to serve as a General Manager, in order to fulfill his duties as the GM for Team Canada.

Serving in both roles is a conflict of interest, and now the Lighting are feeling the ramifications of that. I am not saying that MSL is acting properly, but I am saying that Yzerman botched this thing badly for the Lightning.

I cant really see any other reason why.
Plays in FLA, a great place to live
0% state income tax
Plays with arguably the 2nd best player in the game.
Solid team overall contending for a playoff spot.

Just dont get it?

IF he goes anywhere it might be Vancouver, think about it

MSL/SEdin/Sedin or MSL/Kessler

Van can give a first and Hunter Shinkaruk to start and a D to make it cap friendly

Mike Gillis would be stupid to deal the little amount of young talent he has for a guy who is nearing retirement.

Agreed, The canucks should be trying to acquire younger/middle aged talent, not trade it away.

Def no Hovart, but Hunter Shinkaruk can be have, Kesler still has term and would be great for next 2 years, and hovart will be ready....

MSL if anything is going west, no way lightning ships him to pitts/boston 100% not happening.

So logical move is Vancouver maybe Colorado/Stlouis

As a die hard bolts fan on illinois. .I'm having trouble with this..If the snub is his reason for wanting out..then goodbye....This is a team and no one man is bigger than the team..and the fact that he is basically flipping off his teammates speaks volumes about his character. .thanks for the memories marty..but goodbye...

Just saying who has assets to make this move, if im stlouis I dont trade anyone on current roster, it limits the assets.

Make no sense for lightning to trade to top east contender when they will need to play them. SO only options is out west and who is desperate to save their job GILLIS is thats for sure
