The guy was the leading scorer in the league last year and the Olympic GM doesn't pick him up? He's your own player and can't fight for him. Marty should go where he's appreciated. Tampa won't get fair value for him.too bad for Steve Yzerman. He screwed himself over. - kaptaan
I love the apologetic arguments coming out over this guy. |

Nope but feel free to burn yours.
Marty St. Louis has done everything that was asked of him by Tampa and a lot more. Marty took a hometown discount when he signed his last contract and never considered going the UFA route. He has played as hard for the Lightning regardless of a winning or losing season.
I wouldn't be surprised if there is more to this story than has been reported. I wonder if Steve Yzerman asked Marty in the past if he would waive his NMC? Maybe Yzerman indicated he didn't want to resign him? A lot more could be going on here.
Guess we will know how this all plays out in a week. I am very disappointed by the Lightning fans trashing Marty. - Leafsandbolts
Never considered leaving? He threatened them via the media you blockhead
Here is a news flash? TBay was his LAST shot. Calgary dropped him, Ottawa didn't sign him. There was an excellent chance if he didn't make the Bolts that he would have been flipping burgers and making Poutine! |

I get "snubbed" by my wife all the time, doesn't mean I'm gonna grab the two dollar hooker down the road and run her through. |

Seems to me the media is doing most of the chasing on this story, and in fact making it a story. From the second he was left off Team Canada, you knew that the media would make the most of it as an opportunity. But hey, it's their job I guess.
Again when has Marty ever shied away from laying his opinions out for all to see? |

You would need two dollars in the first place. |

I'm the same way. I have followed his whole career, and I don't believe for a second he's the type of guy to leave and handcuff a team over something like that.
Now, maybe he talked with Yzerman and asked "Are you going to go for it all next season?" and Steve said no, we're going to wait a bit longer for our prospects before we really go all in trade/roster wise to win another cup, and Marty said well, if that's how you feel maybe try and move me because I'm not sure how much longer I will play.
That's the ONLY way I can see this happening.
But, cue the ridiculous prosposals from other teams like Callahan... - TommyDeVito
There is definitely more to this than the Team Canada snubbing, that's for sure.
If there isn't, I have lost all respect for MSL, but I highly doubt that's the case.
If MSL and Yzerman had a meeting and mutually agreed that his future won't be with the Lightning, why would he request a trade? Wouldn't they keep it quiet?
I really want to know the full story here. |

What (frank)ing more could they have done for him? They made him Capt. they gave him a rousing celebration for his thousandth game and essentially made him the centerpiece of this team regardless of his (frank)ing age. My only thought on this is that he is pissed off at Cooper the way Vinny was pissed with torts! |

Maybe Dave Andreychuk needs to go in there and slap the poop out of him. |

I would. It's called getting what coming to me. Or her depending on how you look at it.
MSL is going to NJ to for the oldest starting lineup in the history of the NHL with Brodeur in net. |

Huge mistake for Marty. Yzerman, along with everyone else working for Hockey Canada, were building a team from the best talent pool in the world. Not Marty's call whether he "deserves it" or not. While the fact that he is clearly good enough to play for TC is not up for debate, it is also clear the braintrust was looking for size and speed (along with the aforementioned worldclass talent). At 38 Marty is clearly not as fleet of foot at this point and obviously brings no size.
I also don't think Marty holds even close to all the cards in this situation. He has a no movement clause, but Yzerman doesn't have to trade him. I can't imagine him getting traded to the east this year, since Marty would reject a bottom feeder trade and no way Yzerman trades him to an eastern conference contender. The Bolts also do not risk losing him for nothing since he has another year on his contract. unless the offer is there out west, I see Yzerman sitting on this one. TB must have been planning for Marty to be gone in a year or two anyway, so aside from maybe losing out on a cup run this year, I don't think the organization is getting their back pushed to the wall at all.

If Martin St. Louis still looking for a way out of Tampa Bay, the 38-year-old NHL veteran isn't showing his cards. When asked Wednesday about his name surfacing in trade rumours ahead of the Mar. 5 NHL trade deadline, St. Louis told reporters: "I've had conversations with Steve (Yzerman) about my future with the team and I'll leave it at that."
There's no need to take the next step and assume something, - mykokes
But I will say this...there are things you can take from this...first, that he has spoken about his future...If everything was ok, he really didnt need to talk them at this time about his future with the team...second, he could of just said that the rumors were untrue, and that would be that..its sounds like a "I dont want to handcuff Yzerman in trade negotiations" answer...Unfortunately, there seems to fire to this smoke...
