That makes no sense. That's an overpayment for where our team stands. MSL best player by a margin, but we still wouldn't have many decent Dmen (in fact we'd have 1 less after this). - walshyleafsfan
Inserting St. Louis into the leafs line up would be a huge upgrade. Lupul is one of my favorite leafs but you have to give something to get something. As for the d. I think Toronto will find another defenceman before the playoffs. Not one of gardiner a calibre but maybe it opens up a spot for Reilly to get more minutes if they think he's ready. |

Oh yeah, what with their run and gun offense type of game. - walshyleafsfan
LA needs more scoring, he'd fit in and crush regardless of their system. |

Who would actually want to trade for this classless piece of garbage now? Walking out on the organization that gave you everything and your teammates who are ready to make a playoff push...Hurt the little shmuck's feelings and he will want out again - keatondixon
Well this take seems a bit excessive... but, I have to somewhat agree. Why should your teammates and fans pay for a personal conflict between you and the GM?!
This seems like a pretty selfish move and it's not like he didn't end up playing and getting his gold medal anyway. Seems a bit narcissistic to not just let bygones be bygones at this point. He made his point, in the end he got what he wanted whether it be via injury default or what have you, let it go and move on. |

Gardiner sucks...I'm sure we could replace his quality with a pylon or somebody from the Marlies. |

I agree, total overreaction IMO. If there isn't more to this then wow. What is this, the NBA? |

I have a feeling there is more to it. Doesn't seem like a very Marty thing to just leave because he didn't make Team Canada. |

Maybe Yzerman has already made it clear that he is not bringing him back.

MSL to leafs for Lupul, Gardiner 1st - GOLEAFS71
Do you have a touch of down? This trade would be ridiculously bad for the Leafs! |
|

No kidding, but I don't expect anything significant(Edler, Kesler, etc) until the draft. - Nucker101
Kesler?
SJ managed to do a quick retool by getting lucky in the draft while keeping most of their roster. I'd assume Vancouver is looking to follow the same path. Trading Schneider for the Horvat pick was a good start.

Yes, love how somehow everyone assumes it's just the Team Canada thing and not anything else.
Let's all bash on the most productive player in the NHL in the last 5 years because, with all that "inside information" we got, he's clearly an bumhole. |

Why all of these non sensical ideas? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the Flyers wont be trading their second leading goal scorer who is signed thru 2019 at under 4/yr to anyone anytime soon. |

as a bolts fan and as i know marty personally. i really doubt he wants to move. but i do think he will retire when his contract is up. as for a return id want a high pick and a top 4 d man. we have drouin as his replacement and numerous other forwards. id love to get one of the four out of St. louis but i doubt that will happen. |

JVR for Luke Schenn leads me to believe it's possible. |

I love Kesler, but at his age and with the way he plays plus with his contract coming up soon, at this year's draft is the time to deal him since this team needs to move assets that will start bidding wars and bring in good young assets. I'd personally prefer the main part of the package to be a young player who's shown some ability at the NHL level, you don't want to trade a guy like Kesler for a totally unproven package of assets. |
