Yeah keeping fonzie as a coach ,over an allstar player like kesler doesnt make sense.Torts will probably get canned in a year or two anyhow

Other than for your top tier players, the most precious asset right now for any team is cap space. The next best assets are good second line players on good contracts with decent term 2 to 4 years on their deal.

Kessler and Edler are great examples of movable assets. Ideally Vancouver wants back younger guys on better contracts. Callahan just does not work very well with the Vancouver payroll. Columbus could work but no chance Johansson is coming back.

What we are going to see more and more is that teams will always want to send more salary than they are prepared to take back.

Kesler has a Full NTC, he is not going to Toronto, with all this coming out (I still don't think its true) his trade value has probably gone down a bit. Every team knows he wants out, he can dictate where he wants to go. Not a good situation for Gillis.
