It's obvious! The Canucks should obviously hold on to everybody! Super old unsuccessful teams always win the cup! - SolidGoldBricks

Agreed on the return , but because Kesler has a Ntc he might be tempted to play for the cbj because he played his NCAA hockey in Ohio. - Alexzanki
I do see the connection but I don't see the assets to get this deal done. Van would want Johansen - and there's no way Columbus is trading him.

may be so, but still doesn't answer why Columbus/NYR would be willing to give up good, younger, cheaper centers for an injury prone and getting older Kesler. i mean, maybe he just meant players LIKE johansen/stepan but there aren't too many of those around
normally i wouldn't question a report from Bob but the reported demands there strike me as a bit bizarre - S Kaspar Rollins

Vancouver gets a far better deal for Kesler if they wait until summer just before the draft. It makes no sense to move him unless you get back younger players with decent contracts. Make no mistake. Moving Kesler means the Canucks have shifted to rebuild mode. |

Lots of teams would love a player like Kesler. I don't see him waiving his NMC to the Rangers though. Him and AV weren't really on the same page. |

Can't see Gillis wanting a UFA, I'm guessing he would want a young player that is under contract for a couple years at a good cap hit. |

Agreed 100%, this is a deal you make at the draft. |

It will depend on the offers and expectations of ownership. Aquilini has proven to be involved in decision making far too often.
If ownership is insisting on making the playoffs this year, they may try and move Kes and Edler nest week to try and rebuild the top 6 for the push.

People over in Carol's blog have always thought that the NYI would be a great trade partner with the Canucks. Maybe there is a deal there?
Strome, Pulock, and depending on Gillis' trading acumen a pick?
With the Islanders moving to Brooklyn, maybe some star power would benefit them? |

Good point. Perhaps adding a prospect or conditional pick on re-signing. |

For Vancouver to have their best shot at making playoffs they need to keep both Kesler and Edler. If they move one or the other they are rebuilding and more players are going.

Eklund says it's been common knowledge for a long time now that Kesler wants out. So common that Eklund forgot to write about it. - hankthetank

Does Tyler Myers plus a second round draft pick for Kessler even begin the conversation with Gillis? Shoot, I'll throw in Ennis if it helps. |

The Canucks don't need another dman - unless you're taking Edler as well.
