Yeah but whose view is this? Homer's? Snyder's? Hexy's? I like our young core. I'm mean this is Philly, we have to see who wins this year's cup so we can build our team. - Deasr1
I like pieces of that younger core definitely. I do think Giroux is a good choice for a #1 go to guy so to speak.
Its why I am not too frustrated with them this year, in terms of a player stand point alone. Its transition time, I've accepted that as a fan. What I am looking at more than anything else this year is the play of those young core kids.
It will be those kids that lead this team to a cup. The Flyers seem to have locked in with Giroux and Voracek. Now we are looking at BSchenn, Couturier and Simmonds.
Its all about the "core" in today's NHL imo. You have solid complementary pieces, but that core must be solid. I do at times question whether the guys mentioned in this post, other than Giroux, are those "go to guys", so to speak. Or just complimentary pieces. That is what should be the focus to me anyway, not guys like Daley who can push this team into a playoff round for a quick exit.
I still say that imo they are a few years away, because they lack the star power. Especially on the back end. The core, needs more added to it from its base. |

flyers should trade Braydn Schenn and Luke Schenn for Tyler Myers +
Tyler Myers has huge potential on a very bad Buffalo team. Change of scenery would be huge for a 24 year old - Winning
That would have to a huge +. That is two top 5 former draft picks. |

Buffalo has better D prospects in their system, not sure that would be enough to land him. |

I agree with you...but "our core" is on the offense. They are not building a core on the defense. Gus? maybe. Schenn. Hopefully. Coburn looks to be constant. |

If they want Myers, I offer Read, not B. Schenn. If I am getting rid of two under 25 top 5 drafted players, then I am getting a sure fire 25 to 26 year old star. Just my opinion. |

I agree 100% about guys like Daley. No reason to give up assets for that kind of player. And I agree on having a solid core. And I think the FLyers have that for sure. But there's no reason why that core can't be supplemented with sold veterans. Having a bunch of kids without veteran support is a death sentence for those kids as players.

The Flyers are building a pretty good stable of young defense prospects.

Wouldn't want either of them. Good players, just not a fit for this team. However, Ott would not let this team get kicked around like last night. |

Just a quick thought on the core concept:
Look at the core groups, offense and defense included of the top 5-10 teams in the league.
The Flyers, do not come close to that level of elite talent. That's the flaw imo. Its why I suggest being a seller, to try and improve that aspect.
That star power is missing.

True, but when they are ready to actually be very productive, we will need to restart building our offense. I understand offense is easier to get, draft and develope for Philly. I just think they waited too long to start the defensive build process. |

You know, I do like parts of this core definitely, but they do have a bit of a "complimentary" vibe to them other than Giroux.
You do need to have veterans around the kids, but you also need that star power or its all for naught. You need the war horses. Its why I'd suggest being a seller, do try and fill that talent gap. I do think they have far too much mediocrity on the crew. |

No way. I like Miller, but Mason is younger and cheaper right now. I think he has it in him to be better than Miller. Wouldn't change goalies. |

Ott I would love. In FA though depending on the price.
Not to give up assets now though. Not worth that. |

We are a real scoring winger, and 2 d-men away from being really dangerous. Too much grit. |

That's comparing players who are much further along in their development to players who are in the process of developing. That's a poor comparison.
What does star power do for you? Washington has star power, how have they done? How about Tampa Bay with their star power? The Flyers don't need star power. They need the young player to keep growing, and they need to improve the defense.

I don't agree with that at all. The Flyers have how many good young forwards under 25? And a few good players in the 25-27 range.

I love Read, I really do. I just think B Schenn will put it all together and be a force in two years. He is still young and is learning. He's a center, not a winger. I think that is some of the issues with him. |
