Maybe. That well-run franchise has won as many playoff rounds as that constantly-transitioning roster of the Flyers since 08-09. |

As a STH, I am okay with a few bad years as long as they're fairly forward about it and stick with it. It's when they keep selling you a retooled roster year after year where I have a problem. - jmatchett383
Can anybody here say, with any degree of confidence, what this team's identity is supposed to be? |

Totally serious question for you:
Heading into the playoffs this year, would you rather have MAF or Steve Mason as your starter? |

So then what is the solution when you see the same problems spanning across completely different rosters and coaches? It is baffling to me. - MBFlyerfan
IMO it hasn't. He is thinking back to when Richie and Carter were here and they always had a slump in the middle of the year. The fact is slumps happen to most teams. What the issue is with this team is not that there are slumps, but that there seems to be an "in-game" issue that is causing this team to lose. Pin-pointing the issue just seems impossible to me.
Is it Speed, Skill, Inexperience, Lack of leadership, Gaps, Laziness, who knows... |

They are very stable. As are the Edmonton Oilers. Same types of players year after year, same results year after year. |

So if I said the Blackhawks were a legit contender, and the Sabres aren't I would be incorrect right? - PLindbergh31
I mean when you're in the playoffs. Thus the point of the topic of not selling when your in a playoff hunt. |

An inconsistent team you can always be trust to be inconsistent, consistently. It's the consistent ones you have to be worried about, because you never know when they'll do something stupid. |

I actually think Edmonton is extremely unstable...same players, but different coaches, different GMs and really no plan or philosophy. One is a playoff team and cup contender every year and one is a basement dweller that keeps telling there fans to be patient with all the young kids and there potential but they never addressed defense or goal tending , hmm that sounds familiar, How you can compare the Sharks and Oilers and say they are the same is kinda incredible |

I honestly look at the Sharks and say "what a well run franchise"...I know they havent won the cup, but they are always a contender and rarely make the big moves..Alot of there team is from in house and the coach has been there since '08. Everything about that team is sturdy with a good foundation.... - nonpoint22
So Thornton, Heatley, Havlat, Niemi, Burns, Torres, Stuart are all in house players? I would say the Sharks have aquired more of their team then grew them in-house. |

with Homer you know you will have old D men and lots of centers...plus a farm team with tons of 4th line prospects |

I have this dream that the Sabres bite and claw their way up to the bottom wild card spot and play the Penguins 1st round... And then we all get to watch as Fleury implodes and the Sabres knock the Penguins off...
Course, then I wake up. |

That's the goal, but it's not a persona to get you there.
Like the Pens ride their star power, and LA/BOS dishearten you offensively while grinding you into the ground, and CHI/DET are going to win because they're never going to give you the puck, and NJ/NYR are all about contesting everything and out-working their way to wins.
The Flyers seem to have a finger or toe in all these philosophies, but when you consider everything, they're totally directionless in a sense. |

Right now blind passes, low percentage shots from the outside, and chirping are our strategy...
