Scrivens resigned - deks1
Nice. I was hoping for 3 years, but I'll take it. Maybe a little lower in cap hit then I was expecting. |

I like it a lot. Cap hit around bishop or bernier deal was good measuring stick. |

Yeah I saw that.
Our 1st is a LOT to give up though, and they don't have a lot of good centres that they could send back if we wanted to go 1st + Gagner.
So, say we're willing to trade our 1st, a roster player and a prospect. Does that get us Ladd and Byfuglien? Is that too much to pay? - Morris
I would do it even if we have to add... 2 players we need! |

Do you see Arcobello as a viable 2nd line centre long term on a cup competitive team? I don't, without major restructuring of the kind of supporting wingers that are in the top 6.
I pretty much agree with everything else though. - Morris
No, I don't. That having been said, I don't see Gagner as such either and Arco would almost definitely be cheaper to retain and would net a lesser return despite being a VERY similarly talented player. |

Agreed.
Outside of gagner's character and desire to be an oiler, he doesn't actually help us win games.
Arco isn't way less talented. Better defensively, and way cheaper.
Worst case, we're looking for another 2c In the offseason. But without the burden of gags' ntc

The rumour game is such big business nowadays.
Credentials don't matter, cause outside of maybe 3 guys, everyone is full of it

I certainly don't see cap as an issue, so Gagner being overpaid or making more than Arco doesn't bother me too much.
But I suppose in certain ways it is kind of a zero-sum game (either or between the two of them).
If you think of the top 9 for next year
Yak, Ebs, Nuge, Perron, Hall, Gordon, certainly have spots, so Gags/Arco makes 7, leaving you space to go out and get two complimentary difference makers.
I contend that nothing's really stopping you from keeping both Arco and Gags, but now you've only got 1 spot left, so that somewhat narrows the type of player that can be an effective complimentary add. You're looking for the last piece for a specific line.
That being said, there's of course a 3rd and 4th scenario, where you vow to make Gordon a 4C by improving depth, such that you keep Gags and Arco and add two, or keep one of them and add three players. I can understand why one would want to go with the latter there as well though, because while Gagner and Arco have different skillsets for sure, some of their limitations are the same.
I can especially understand where you decide to keep just Arco if there's a deal on the table for Gagner that makes us better in other areas (I'd take an underachieving "Gagner-potentialled" dman over Gagner right now for example).
But (and I realize I'm in the minority here) I don't necessarily think of Arco-Gagner as an either/or proposition, nor do I feel like Gagner's hefty (at present) cap hit impedes us particularly. I can see the argument about diversifying skillsets though/ |

It's really all about redundancy for me. He's the least talented on an already small and defensively weak top 6.
He's the obvious choice to go imo.
I just don't see him as a viable option with this group. Neither do I see arco that way, but only one of them has any real value in a trade.
I'll agree that the cap is a minor issue. But we'll still be needing that different type of skillet in the offseason. But gags will also have an ntc.[/img] |

I wonder whether he'd actually stick his heels in in the summer.
I bet we could get him to waive. I mean, it seems like he and MacT were ready to forget about that much-discussed verbal NTC.
I'd feel better about the situation honestly if we weren't (reportedly) getting lowballed on the return. |

Most likely. But it worries me that our options may be limited even farther in an asset that probably doesn't have the value we hoped in the first place.
End of the day, I really think he's gotta be the first step. Acquiring a less talented, but bigger two way guy, is a step in the right direction for this squad imo.
I think Arco could full in that spot admirably. But long term, neither are the answer |
