It sure as (frank) doesn't. Unfortunately, it's not looking like there'll be many legit top pairing options available this summer the team is likely gonna have to just get by with bandaid solutions until one of Nurse, Klefbom, or Marincin is ready for top pairing minutes.

I'm still looking forward to seeing how Dillon Simpson's game translates to the big leagues. Based off of very limited viewings, scouting reports, and boxcars, he appears to be very comparable to Petry- both production-wise and style-wise (albeit with weaker skating and step ahead in awareness and "hockey IQ"). If he follows a similar career path to Jeff, we could have another solid Dman coming through the ranks!

If we're looking at the UFAs just straight up ignoring injuries, he's likely the best behind Markov. Hainsey, Boyle, and Timonen are the next few, but I could only see Hainsey coming here. Both Pitkanen and Hainsey's possession numbers are pretty impressive and they both play top-4 minutes (or top-2 in Pitkanen's case) faces tough competition.

I'm not saying I agree with buying him out, but his recent play hasn't inspired much confidence. He's been back from injury for 5 games and of the 12 goals that have been scored by the opposition players, Ference has been on the ice for 11 of them. He likely just came back from injury too soon.
