Good post. All that with the fact that free agents don't wanna sign here. At least if we started winning. But as of today, undesirable spot and a bottom feeder...
Need to make deals to improve this club - hugefemale dog77
We need a parise Suter situation where two stars sign here to collectively help a team

Because at age 22 he's producing above-PPG in the AHL while maintaining his strong two-way game, playing a strong possession game, and improving the play of his teammates. You're folly to believe you can justify any absolute judgement on him at this point in his career. Considering his impressive growth since coming over from Sweden, I'd say he's got a much better shot at having an good NHL career than not. |

I'm just kidding, he might turn out all right. Remember a few years ago before we drafted Yak when everyone thought MPS Lander and Omark/Harti was the future second line? I was on that ship too, just goes to show how retardedly hopeful one can get. Fortunately, the Oilers cured me of any Hope I ever had.

I don't think Lander is meant to fulfill the same role we Hoped pouliot would. Lander doesn't need To be a top 6 scorer to still be effective for us.

Where to start?
A.) Pouliot scored at a 0.85 point per game pace in his 3rd season in the AHL after playing his whole life in North American rinks. Lander, on the hand, is currently scoring at a 1.10 point per game pace in his 3rd season in the AHL after playing on international sized ice his whole life (not to mention dealing with living in a foreign culture).
B.) Pouliot was a pure offensive player with a serious lack of two-way ability (hence why he didn't make it big in the NHL). Lander, on the other hand, has primarily been a defensive player throughout his career and is noted for his defensive acumen.
C.) You can't merely look at two players' stats to determine how they'll turn out.

Oh, I am SO happy you chose to bring that up! Do you happen to know who Lander's most frequent- and virtually only- linemates have been to this point in his NHL career? The list begins with such stalwarts as Lennart Petrell, Ben Eager, Teemu Hartikainen, Luke Gazdic, Jesse Joensuu, and Ryan Jones all while only playing an average of 7-8 minutes per night.
He was also forced into play 56 of his NHL games at age 20 in his first year in North America. Find me ANY player who, under those circumstances and with that "supporting cast, can produce an even moderate offensive output and I will personally send the Queen of England to your house and have her give you a handy-J.
EDIT: By the way, he's been credited with 2 more assists tonight for the Barons. |

Who exactly were Pouliots line mates? I'm not disagreeing, I just want the full comparison to better understand your position.
