I think the debacles with Pavel Kubina and Kris Versteeg have soured Holmgren on Trade Deadline activity -- they got absolutely nothing from those two guys, and to my recollection -- and my memory could be faulty -- Holmgren hasn't burned a second-rounder or higher since. - AllInForFlyers
wasnt it Brian Burke that was quoted saying..if you need to make a trade at the deadline then your team is already done or something along those lines |

I at first hated that draft. Taking 2 d-men when the obvious need is forward.
I now love it. Zadorov has found an offensive game that is surprising everyone.
Risto should be up in Buffalo next year. he is progressing faster then people thought he would be. - ImThatGuy
Great, so now we agree, Ehrhoff for a 2nd, done, and thank you! |

I really like what the Sabres are doing. Stock piling picks for the draft, understanding they have a rats ass chance in hell at winning.
With Myers, Zadorov and Ristolainen in the fold, along with some other promising younger D, they are building it right imo. They are a fun team to have in the playoffs. Easy to hate. |

So only Morin? - PhillySportsGuy
Of the guys we drafted, probably. Ghost is pretty small and isn't exactly lighting it up in college.
Haggs been meh thus far in Europe but has the size and skill to mature into a better player.
Morin has improved substantially each year.
Look, none of us are NHL scouts. We can't say who is right or wrong until they make it or don't.

Yeah -- I don't agree with Brian Burke about a lot of things when it comes to team-building, but I do think he's right about this.
The prices are just totally out of line for what a player truly is.
Is Ryan Kesler truly worth three pieces, maybe four?
Are Ryan Miller and Steve Ott -- both potential UFAs -- truly worth five pieces, including at least one first-rounder and possibly two?
Again, just because you can pay doesn't mean you should. Again, things can change, and if a deal presents itself, I'm sure Holmgren would do it. But I don't know that he's looking to do one all that aggressively. |

I think Gus' inability to crack the lineup has to do with the Flyers management understanding the market for d-men.
If they can show teams that Meszaros is fully healthy and is still capable, with a market inflated by D--they may be able to get a 2nd or 3rd for a dman who would normally only get a 4th or 5th due to injury risks and going into free agency.
The Schenn/Gustafsson has clearly had better chemistry. And I think it is still worth noting that Berube benched Meszaros even after his 3 goals in 3 games outburst. |

Man, no idea. You're right, Mason can't play 'em all, but I somehow doubt they want to throw Heeter in there, although if Emery's little "tweak" turns out to be more serious than it seems, what options are there? Trade one of our few expendable assets on a goalie?

I think the beats are mostly saddled with having to keep the narratives simple and in the vein of 'Flyers hockey'... on one hand, they're idiots, on the other, they kind of have a thankless job. You have to give Pinocchio credit for having the stones to ask some of the tougher questions lobbed at the brass and players, though. - Tomahawk
I know, but when I see any of them ( except Boruk ) and I listen to them talk about hockey, and flyers in particular, it drives me up a wall because there getting paid to follow the team and they say some of the most ridiculous stuff...Sometimes I wonder if they watch this team at all and sometimes I wonder if they even understand the sport...I truly feel I get a more intelligent hockey conversation on here then I would if I spoke to them, I truly believe that too |

I was just showing how bad they are at drafting dmen. 20 years of drafting dmen and the best they did was pitkanen/Seidenberg.
Infer what you like from what I said. I have 0 faith in the flyers drafting of dmen. - Flyersgod
It's kind of true... Sbisa is looking like a bad pick... Marshall, Bodrov and Ratchuk were bad top-60 picks... maybe the Flyers are just hexed. |

I'm talking about actual roster production; yes, they were able to flip Versteeg again, but let's be honest: They couldn't wait to get that guy out of town because, well, he's not that good a player and his reputation is far bigger than his game

He really has no reasoning for benching people though. I have no idea who will be in the lineup on Wednesday. I could see Downie and Mez sitting or maybe Downie and Gus or maybe just Mez. Who knows? |

I know thats not what your saying, but again when Panotch brings up rumors of the Flyers possibly obtaining Weber at the draft and the conspiracy machine in flyers fans heads start turning...well, its being reported and the drafts in philly, so I really think its gonna happen...I have to much respect for you by speaking hockey with you to think you feel this way just talking about flyers fans as a whole - nonpoint22
They're not getting Weber. Not for at least 6-7 years. But at the same time, you know the Flyers would love to make a huge splash at their draft. The shirt/jersey sales would be incredible. |

Nobody's saying... but apparently he didn't want to deal Miller... and Murray might have circumvented him to make it happen.

Ghost is in the running for Hobey Baker. He's generally regarded as one of the best defenseman (if not the best) in college hockey. |
