He looks ok to me in these clips. Overselling him/underselling him before he's had any time in the NHL = 2 sides, same coin.

I follow enough guys who are QMJHL observers to feel OK about Morin's potential. My biggest concern is the Flyers rushing him. They'll need to take the slow cooker approach to him.
I've seen a couple of his games and watched some highlights. He does move well for his size, and he's not a black hole with the puck. It'll be interesting to see how he adapts when he gets to higher levels in that regard. - Jsaquella
Some guys respond to the pressure better than others. Nothing to be done but to wait and see. If Maata can come in a look at home, I don't see why Morin can't do the same next year or the year after. The one thing I know for certain is these are highly competitive individuals and they want to play. |

There's plenty of first round busts and late round gems to show me that there's no telling for sure what a guy will be until he plays as a pro.
But there are traits to look at that can be telling. As was mentioned, Ryan Parent was a great defensive player in junior, but never did much offensively. Guys with that kind of trend often end up as journeymen or career AHLers.
That's all that's being discussed, not ripping Morin, but guessing what he could end up being as a NHLer.

He looks like he moves pretty good, both in the d-zone and carrying the puck out, and he made some good first passes out of the zone. Of course some of that has do with his forwards being in range and open. It's just way too early to limit what Morin might be, and I for one tend to think the best until given reason to change my opinion. |

I would take morin being a Bryan Allen or Chris Phillips or even coburn in a heartbeat. This was a mid first round pick. Not a top 3 pick like many make him out to be |

Buffalo's is going to look pretty ridiculous too in a few years... Zadorov is another guy that we'll be crying about soon... huge jump up to point-per-game for London and had a monster WJC since the draft... he might turn out to be better than Risto.
 - Tomahawk
That's the guy I wanted at our spot...was most high on him and Nurse. Z has Morin's size and mobility with twice the offensive game. He was there for the taking and they franking blew it. While I think Morin is intriguing, he's just more of a long shot than Zadorov imo. Time will tell I guess. |

I'd like to see the data on that. And like you said, you never know how a player is going to turn out. Professional talent evaluators have a hard enough time accurately predicting how these players are going to turn out. It's fun to talk about and discuss, but the reality is that any fan is not really qualified to talk definitively on any player, and how they'll turn out. Regardless of how may videos are watched, articles are read. Or how many scouting reports are perused over. And the word guessing is accurate.
And Ryan Parent is one player. |

He was an 11th overall pick in the first round. One player out of the top 10. If he turns out to be any of those players, he certainly won't be a bust. But it will be disappointing.

Some guys do step in and perform well out of the box. But it was widely felt at the time of Maatta's draft that he was the most NHL ready defenseman in the class. The questions about Maatta were mainly not if he'd be in the NHL, but if he'd be a top pair guy or even legitimate number one defenseman, or if he'd end up as a solid top four guy.
As far as Morin goes, the story was that he was very raw, and most of the Q guys I follow mention the progress made, but still stress that he has room to grow and needs time. One telling item is that he's still taking a lot of discipline lapse penalties.
If he needs an extra year or two, there should be no reason for the Flyers to rush him. If he comes to camp and wins a job, great, but make sure that he's being used properly for his development. Me, I'd err on the side of patience. |

Yup, I understand. I did expect a lot more from Ryan Parent. It's a shame he never lived up to his potential. But for the very reasons you've given, there's just not a lot in too much speculation. Like you said, he could be an AHLer or a Chara. I for one can't wait to see. |

no offense to you guys, some stuff over there borders on lunacy. i wasnt even bother going to try to have a legitimate conversation in there on the matter.
while i wont try to speak for anyone, i disagree with both of those evaluations though. |

Why did Maata drop to 22 then? I'd have to imagine he'd go much higher if that draft was redone.
No doubt, don't rush Morin. I think it also comes down to the system you're dropping him into, the coaches, the support, and who are his mentors on the ice. Unfortunately, the Flyers are most likely losing the defensive leader both from an on-ice and team point of view, and that definitely has an impact on young player development. |

I'm curious to how this trade deadline is going to play out. There aren't a lot of teams with ample cap space to play with, so does it become a buyers market with less teams in the mix for certain players? Or is it the opposite. Lots of teams are still in the hunt, so a team looking to sell can use teams bidding against each other to drive up the price.
Kesler is a real good player, but the price is very high. |

Agreed. He's AHL eligible next season, right? I figure about 2 years and he's learning as he goes in Orange and Black. |

A comparable package for the Flyers to land Kesler with what the asking price is. Would be B. Schenn, Scott Laughton, and a 1st round pick. No way in hell! |

No, you have to be 20 to play in the AHL.
