true. but then you have to wonder just how much control kesler will have in deciding his destination. i dont know the full extent of his NTC. that could play a role in depressing value as well. if he has the ability to essentially whittle it to a choice few, then the cap flexibility of other teams wont have that much of an impact if he wouldnt waive to go there any way. - stayinthefnnet
I think it's a full NTC.

then without trying to sound arrogant that he would be dumb to want to go anywhere else, if he really only limits his options to say the flyers and pens, the ability of other teams to get in on it really doesnt carry too much weight. |

Exactly. So then I wonder why a player like Hamhuis, who played 4 Junior Seasons is being compared to an 18 year old who is in his second year of Junior Hockey. Or with Vlasic, who played 3 Junior Seasons, and really didn't put up top offensive numbers until the 3rd season. So let's compare apples to apples, instead of already labeling what Morin is going to be, based on his low offensive output to this point. - MJL
Vlasic and Hamhuis both put up better than point per game as 18-year-olds in their post-draft seasons... and they went pro shortly thereafter.
It's not just the totals themselves, though. Lot of kids put up a ton of points in junior and fail to make the pros. It's more about year-to-year improvement, and Morin's got that going for him so far. If he can take another step next season (hopefully still w/ Rimouski), then we'll all be far more confident in projecting him as a future NHL player, or top-4 dman. Like OB and Jsaq have said before, he's still got a long way to go before he gets there. |

Going off the reports, he's OK'd Pittsburgh, Philly, Detroit & Chicago.

chicago could put together a nice package around Saad. depending on what else theyd like to add to it, that deal could be hard to beat. but i wonder if Van would really want to deal him to a rival. |

Vlasic didn't put up high point totals until his 3rd Junior Season. Hamhuis played 4 Junior Seasons. Let's see where Morin is when his Junior career is complete and then accurate comparisons can be made. I'm confident now in the Flyers judgement and in hearing what the scouts have to say, that the Flyers made a good pick. We'll see what happens. Of course he has a long way to go, he's 18.

And Chicago doesn't really need Kesler that badly to pay the asking price. |

true. they dont really have many "needs". but toews/sharp followed by kesler/kane would be menacing. |

I don't think Chicago has the Center that Vancouver wants.

They have TT(the Finnish prospect), Saad(doubt he's available) and Leddy as good young peices. But yeah, the guy above metioned it. How stacked would they be with Toews, Kane, Kesler, Sharp, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook, etc.
But I'd puke seeing him on that team. |

Doesn't fit the bill of the asking price. They want an NHL ready Center 20-25 who can step in a play right away.

it admittedly wont be at the same level as kesler, but sutter arguably fits that bill. |

Nothing to do with trusting anyone. He's not the Center they're looking for. They're looking for a player like that as the prospect, an NHL ready Center already in the NHL, and a first round pick. |

Yes, Sutter is an NHL ready Center that can step right into the lineup. Then have to add a top prospect, and a #1 pick.

They'd prefer a forward for the prospect. It's going to be interesting.

That's problematic, but there's hurdles now, as well. Regardless, I doubt the Canucks sell him cheaply whether it's now or the summer |

yup. i definitely concede that the value may not be in the columns Van desires. the pens really dont have a top flight forward prospect. i really like bennetts game, but he is starting to become someone whose name in the lineup will have to permanently be written in pencil as opposed to pen. his value to the pens due to their utter lack of other forward prospect talent also probably exceeds what it would objectively be worth to another team in a trade. |

i wouldnt expect him to go cheaply. but, as solid as he is, he isnt a superstar. if i were shero/holmgren/whoever, you have to find the restraint to ship out access that indicate otherwise. |

You'd like to think they'd have that restraint...but there's always GM's that convince themselves that their guy is worth that price.

definitely true. i wouldnt go much higher than the proposed sutter/first, third/ despres, dumoulin deal. if that isnt enough, then oh well. look elsewhere.
maybe take another stab at the draft, but even then. if much more is required, then move on. |
