I'm willing to see it this way:
He took the team right before a shortened season.
Last year was a write-off no matter how well or bad they did. It was an "evaluation period".
Now, they didn't think the team would do as well as they are doing entering the season, so they are forced to help the team with the playoffs coming.
He'll probably try to sign Vanek during the summer and get more size throughout the line up. Some expiring contracts won't be renewed, dead wood will be shed. |
