Good point.

However, how many starting jobs for goalies are going to be out there this summer?

- EKolb13

The supply will be greater than the demand for backup goalies. That's my point. Teams will look to get cheaper there. So in this case, Minnesota reportedly wants to upgrade their goaltending position so they may be forced to overpay for Halak or Brodeur. Buffalo isn't winning anything anytime soon so might as well try to flip Halak for a pick or prospect then you can either sign him in the offseason or sign someone else and still have an asset in hand.

I'm not sure about the goalie market this year - could be a bit of a glut. If so, I'd say they get something for him and sign a decent vet to play behind Enroth, who looks pretty good. There's been talk about flipping Halak since the Miller trade, but who the heck knows?

Edit - what golfbard said!

I don't think Kesler is realistic at all, which a lot of people have echoed here. Unless the Hawks offer something that Vancouver can't refuse, which they won't, then its Vancouver or a sleeper.

If the the Hawks make a run at anyone for 2C, then it should be Legwand. However, I could see Poile asking for a king's ransom.

My guess is that the Hawks stay pat, save for another depth player. I also think that they'll give TT a look before it's over.

I like Legwand too but just don't see it happening. Makes too much and I can't see the Hawks giving up a lot for a rental unless they believe they'll sign him. Also can't see a trade in the division happening now even though Nashville is on the outside looking in. I can see Legwand getting dealt but I don't think the Hawks are the team that gets him.

Again I see the Hawks landing a veteran forward like Goc or a veteran D man like Andrew Macdonald.

Agreed. Do you think they'll give TT a look this year as well, alas they did Saad? If he does well then he'll stay, if he struggles or is even mediocre they'll send him to Rockford?

main page says Jordan Staal may be on the outs in Carolina. $6 mil cap hit until 2023.

To quote ELI:
Bowmann nedds to getz that guy. Hes gotz lotz of RED ASS!!!

My sarcastic take:
Offer that Bickell, Leddy and McNeill package to the Canes. they need the depth

If you read into the tweets the other day about Teravainen after the Pirri trade, it would seem to me that's one idea that the organization is thinking about doing.

Yeah, I read that and posted there. If Rutherford wants to move out some salary, why wouldn't he look to move Semin first?

Also, why would he break up the Staal family in the first place? He drafted Eric and the other unnamed useless brother, and traded for Jordan. The only one he doesn't have is Marc, and if given the chance, Rutherford would probably trade for him too.

Glad Pirri is going to get a shot somewhere in the NHL. I just hope that if Handzus goes down this Regin can fill in, because you just drastically shortened the depth you have down in Rockford. Cue the "Well if the Hawks needed Pirri at any point they were f'd....." and I get that, but lets remember that if Handzus gets hurt.

Hossa took a nasty shot at Soldier Field. I bet it's a mild separation. He was sitting on the bench, but when he did leave to head off after the 1st period he was holding his arm against his side pretty good, which is a HUGE tell of a shoulder injury. The off time hopefully will enable him to be as healthy as he can be for the stretch run...

I don't see the Hawks making any trades. I don't discount anything that John has posted, but the asking price for Vancouver is a 20-25 yr old PROVEN NHL center, a top prospect and a pick....So the Bickell/Leddy/McNeil offer may have never been looked at seriously by Gillis.

I don't think anyone can deny the west is very even right now...and a trade by Anaheim (Vanek) or LA (Moulson) would be tough to overcome. I don't expect Bowman to do much at all...because he's up against the cap already.....so all these big names have as good as a shot landing in Chicago as I do piloting a 747 next to Olgi.

I do feel bad for Kane...will we EVER see how good this guy can be or is he going to be stuck playing with piles of crap at 2c as a Hawk? Has to be taking a toll on 88 mentally. Lots of pressure for him to create AND produce on that line...Can't be overlooked.

Possibly...my guess is he becomes a black ace and given every shot to earn a spot next September.

I'll say it.....I'm sorry but I'm not sold. He's small, and if he were THAT good...sure the Hawks would have found a home for him this year. Instead, he's going to come in having to live up to expectations that aren't warranted and potentially bottom out like so many prospects do.

I hope I'm wrong, but put me in the camp of wait and see before I pencil him for 40 goals and 100 points.

By no means do I want Jordan Staal but that contract isn't as bad as it looks. It's for 10 years but he's only 25. The first few years are a big overpayment but towards the end of the deal it should be more than fair. Regardless, I don't see any reason for Rutherford to trade Jordan.

I'm not sure he becomes a black ace. He's better off playing so if Rockford is still playing then I see him there on the ice. I do agree that I'm not sold on him as a center. Seems better suited at wing on line 2 with Kane. Put Zus, Kane and TT together and you call them the cock and balls line.

Maybe 5 years ago....but what would the price be personnel wise and what would the cap hit be ?
- philco28

It would be very tough to make it work, maybe impossible....But of all the rumors the 2nd goalie is the one I give a 2nd thought.

Unusual but 2 Cup winners will be available maybe 3.....

For those who listen to the NHL network I will be on today at 12:05 CST.

I know if he plays 10 games for the Hawks they use up one year of his ELC. Is the same true if he plays more than 10 in the AHL? If so, it'll be Hawks or nothing, imo.

Anyone have a legitimate scouting report on Kevin Hayes? He's tearing it up at BC. Does he have potential as a 2C?

TT will be a Black Ace....They would rather see him up here and let those who have played in Rckfrd. play in the AHL if they are alive.

Bowman said they would look to bring him over after his season...By that I'm pretty sure he meant to be in Chicago.

As far as playing every game....TT, after his playoffs will have had a long year.

A 2nd goalie would indeed be a nice addition. The thing I wonder about is the cap space - if the goalie has any kind of contract the Hawks would need to move a roster player for a guy who is unlikely to play in the post-season.

I don't think Bowman is going to go for a goalie. Maybe a depth defenseman or forward.

Makes sense and I hope he does play here. I'm hoping this is another Kruger situation where he comes over and plays down the stretch and in the postseason.
