If the Hawks give up Bickell for Brodeur (assuming this to cover the cap hit), how do the Hawks replace Bickell? - EKolb13
There is no way they will give up Bickell for a back-up goalie who is 147 years old. |

His cap hit is $4.5M, so even if NJ keeps one-half of that hit, the Hawks will need to lose $2.25M in salary. Raanta would be $925 of that, which leaves $1.325M. The Hawks only have $837K in space, so they'd need to lose a roster player and not replace him. - mohel
Well you lose Bouchard and LaBarbera, that's 2 million right there.
...but still, AIN'T gonna happen. Nor do I want it to happen either. |

As a REALIST...the numbers don't work, but as a DREAMER...it would be a nice chip for the run. Don't see it happening though for the reasons you've outlined.

Those guys wouldn't count. It would have to be someone from the NHL roster. |

Reminds me of one of my favorite movie quotes...
Clarence: You must be out your goddamn mind! Joe Louis, the greatest boxer that ever lived. [to Akeem and Semmi] I'll be with you boys in a minute. He was badder than Cassius Clay, he was badder than Sugar Ray, and that new boy-what's his name? Mike Tyson?-looks like a bulldog; he was badder than him, too.
Saul: Vait a minute. Vat about Rocky Marciano?
Clarence: Oh, there they go. There they go, every time I start talkin' 'bout boxing, a white man got to pull Rocky Marciano out they ass. That's their one, that's their one. Rocky Marciano! Rocky Marciano! Let me tell you something, once and for all-Rocky Marciano was good; but compared to Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano ain't poop.
Saul: He beat Joe Louis' ass.
Morris: That's right, he did whoop Joe Louis' ass.
Clarence: Joe Louis was 75 years old when they fought.
Morris: I don't know how old he was, but he got his ass whooped.
Clarence: Joe Louis had come out of retirement to fight Rocky Marciano the minute he was 76 years old. Joe Louis was always lying about his age. He lied about his age all the time. One time Frank Sinatra came in here and sat in this chair. I said Frank 'you hang out with Joe Louis, just between me and you, how old is Joe Louis?' You know what Frank told me, he said "Hey, Joe Louis is 137 years old." A hundred and thirty-seven years old!

I also read that Gillis is not hot on the idea of trading him to a team in the Western Conference... - EKolb13
But who's to say the team that trades for him doesn't turn around and trade him. I mean, GM's look out for themselves first. Is there something written in contracts that don't allow this? |

Ok I read everybodys commnets on the No trade clause and am ready to chime in:
1. You REALLY think Marty St. Louis walked into the Steve Yzerman and said, "I want to be traded!" ?
I bet it was more along the lines of a more friendly conversation, like now I am not so sure of your confidence in me, maybe it's not a good fit anymore?
I am sure it APPEARS very Richardish at how the No trade works.
But if a athlete reaches that high level of performances, finds a team that wants to keep him long term and then REWARDS his agent and the player with the NO TRADE, I think the player takes it (especially during that slary pull-back era when the league was "broke" and wanted the high end players to eat cost by taking reductions...this was about all in extras you could bleed out of the teams).
2. You really think players will refuse MOST trade suitor teams?
Well, maybe. This starts to be a delicate balance between staying, media hounds asking daily, and players finally lowering their demands in terms of teams they will agree to.
3. Players especially player who have come close to winning a Cup but haven't probably will be more stubborn to go to teams a bit on the periphery especially if they fill their body clock ticking.
4. Giving a player a no trade in years when the teams are all close to the CAP max really does garnish less return.
That is why I really think both Kesler and Canucks should wait.
Why now? Kesler is dinged up, is the tarde going to radically change the Canucks team in a positive manner? Is Kesler a prolem if he stays in the room?
Let's just say a true contender who presently has little Cap Space doesn't reach the goal of a Cup this year...they then have until the Draft meetings to make hard decisions, clear room, and then take a run at Kesler.
and by waiting Canucks may get a few more willing teams and some REAL return players. (and the return doesn't necessarily mean you need a replacement centre in the package...you can get one in the summer as UFA...)
Besides the sisters there is little valuable in tarding chips for the Canucks no one wants the lime green PJed idiots who rub their genitals against the penaly box glass.
Canucks have no giant pipeline of prospects, just Dane Jensen, Bo Horvat, Hunter Shinkaruk, and no guarantees they are top line guys as of yet....so how do you let Kesler go for guys that haven't shown abilitie to be imapct NHLers a bit so far?

With his current output Morin cold easily replace Bickell. The risk in trading Bickell is losing out on the playoff potential, not what he does day to day. |

Kesler has a NTC. If he's dealt, he has a say in where he s going. I doubt Kesler is going to sign off on getting moved just to be moved again. |

Exactly and after trading Buff, it wasn't until Bickell emerged last spring that they replaced him. So who on this roster (and throw in Morin) can be that physical net presence player in the playoffs? |

There is no adjusting for the elapsed season. The Hawks have $837K in space, and his cap hit is $2M all year long. The Devils could eat $1M, which would mean the Hawks would need to lose a current player. |

Only Bollig and he doesn't have (to date) the scoring touch that Bickell has shown in front of the net. |

OK...can we please stop with all these rumors?
I am by no means a fan of Bickell, but if the Hawks trade him, who is going to replace him on the 3rd line? Who outside of Bolig has size? Nobody.
The Hawks aren't going to make a major trade. It's not in Bowman's DNA. He already added Versteeg. His previous deadline moves for those for Chris Campoli, Handzus, and.....I can't even remember.
So Kesler, Staal, Brodeur, etc wont' be coming here anytime soon. Maybe they add a veteran banger or a depth D man...but that's it.
It sucks...but reading all this crap about they should be in on THIS guy or THAT guy...well....it's not happening.
