Seeds 2 and 3 are guaranteed to be in same division. Seeds 7 nd 8 are wild cards. Both could come from same division. Central might only get 3 spots. Or the could get 5. #1 overall will play seed 8 and #2 will play seed 7

Correct, but I'll spell it out a little for Elbows and Eli, since they are likely drunk...

The teams with the 7th and 8th best records in the conference will make the playoffs. The division winner with the best record plays the 8th seed in the first round, regardless of division. The other division winner plays the 7th seed, regardless of division. Right now The Ducks get Minny and the Blues get Dallas. Let's say that the Canucks put on a charge and get the 7th seed and Minny falls to 8th. Then it would be Ducks/Minny and Blues/Nucks.
